FFS man there is absolutely nothing “local” about Newcastle and Leeds …nor is there any history that could support any “rivalry”……it like saying that Huddersfield are our ”local” rivals if we were both in L1
No its not, nufc and sfs aint in the same league, if they were they would be rivals, thats what I'm saying, no rivalry now

competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field.

How can they be in competition for the same objective?

Leeds are just one of your current “rivals” for a place in the middle of the Premier League….nothing more, nothing less…..they certainly arnt anything remotely resembling ”local” .
The same logic can be applied to the rivalry that currently exists between Brighton and Southampton
You seem a bit simple.
…that or pissed

Exactly, are you rivals for a mid table place in the Premier league? no, so not rivals, its simple really

Until the day one of the clubs ceases to exist, Sunderland and Newcastle are the closest of rivals. We have a long history. We understand one another better than any other. There may be two divisions between us today but, who knows, one day we may again be competing at the very pinnacle of the game.

And be called rivals when they are and rightly so, until that day arrives, they are not rivals, i will just leave it there

We are though and always will be your fiercest local rivals regardless of whatever division both clubs are in and if you dont get that then you are not a true Mag…you certainly arnt a true SAFC follower ???True Mags were still looking out for our result before Fulhams in March…and that is a fact…..much like we were looking for yours ahead of Hulls and Peterboroughs

So if we’re not rivals, what are you doing on here? Or do you post on all of the other 91 clubs’ forums? You’d love to be relevant to some other clubs, but you’re not, that’s the reality. I’ll await your witty remarks about being in the third division etc.

His whole argument is a little like the Scousers one that Man U ( or now City ) are their main rivals instead of Everton ….because the Toffees are ( in Scousers eyes…never going to challenge them for major trophies )……Everton fans of course think completely differently as seen when they beat the Scousers at Anfield a few months ago.
Celtic and Rangers rivalry never diminished when the Gers were forced to drop down the divisions …thats what true local rivalry is

Man United and Liverpool see each other as bigger rivals than their near neighbours. Perhaps inconceivable to us because there isn't a real second derby.
Ask most Liverpool fans and they wouldn't have Everton as their big game.
Same as Man United. Man City wouldn't be their biggest game of the season.
Thats not to say the Manchester/Liverpool derby isn't important to those clubs, but it's not the big one to either side.

City and Everton fans think differently though…..probably due to the fact that the vast majority of them are “local” lads….unlike the season ticket supporters of United (especially) and Liverpool

Where do Manchester United season ticket holders come from?
They've always been the best supported club since the 50s so I'm not sure why you think their fans aren't local lads

We are Newcastle's only true rivals because as much as they would like to think differently, we are the only club who gives a single fuck about them.
rivalry is both ways. do leeds think newcastle are rivals just because they are at the same level? you dont just pick the closest team in your division.
