Are you kidding ?
When we win the 3rd and 4th division trophy tomorrow it will give the Mags all the ammo they need to take the piss for ever ?
We should not be anywhere near this pizza cup bollocks !
It's embarrassing that we are even in it !
I take it you are aware that the mags were in it again this season and I believe were knocked out in the group stage again.

I agree. I also think however that Brighton are being over estimated. Their relegation odds are huge. Southampton at 11/5 today are great odds.
Brighton are creating of plenty of chances. Only 27 goals with an XG of 45. I'm not expecting them to suddenly be prolific in front of goal but I think they'll do enough to survive. They've still got sheff United to play as well.

I think it'll be a case of too little too late for Fulham. They now look like an organised mid table team who keep the ball well. The defence that started the season was abysmal and it'll cost them. Whilst playing some good stuff by it they stil lack a bit of firepower. Despite playing top 6 in last 3 they've still got a relatively tricky run in. The way they're playing, I think they'll get enough draws to keep themselves in contention till late on but won't get enough wins to survive.

As for Newcastle I think you'll limp over the line. It'll go down to the wire. I think it'll be a case of beating sheff United to get out of it and avoiding defeat on the last day to stay out of it.

Might as well shut down the club right away then. We're in this cup because we're at this level.
Embarrassing my arse. A club should always strive for more but not acknowledging and wanting success and wins at the level you are at, how do you even get there?

they are still banging on about winning the fairs cup as some major European trophy. It’s about as much relevance as the pizza cup.

It’s embarrassing being in League One, but I still want us to be Champions of it. Should always look to win whatever you can, better than coming second and winning nowt.

That isn't accurate. If Liverpool were in the cup winners cup or the European cup, Everton could still have entered the Fairs Cup.
In the very early years of it, when it was played over two years, the qualification process was between cities that had hosted an international trade fair. Hence the Fairs Cup.

By mid 60s it had evolved into a two legged knock out competition with qualification awarded on league placing. Initially the organisers had one club per city rule. Which is why Everton didn't qualify in your example. That rule was done away with not long after, although the FA kept it in place, and even into the 70s when the UEFA cup had taken over from the Fairs Cup.

The circumstances in which Newcastle qualified for the 68/69 competition were mad, but we didn't make the rules.

England had 3 places in the Fairs Cup awarded via league position and one club per city.
It meant that because Man United were defending champions of the European Cup, and Man City had won the league, 3rd place Liverpool took the first Fairs Cup place.
4th place Leeds entered the Fairs Cup as defending champions.
5th place Everton unable to enter due to Liverpool qualifying
6th place was Chelsea who took the second Fairs Cup slot.
7th placed Tottenham couldn't enter because of Chelsea.
8th place West Brom entered the Cup Winners Cup.
9th place Arsenal couldn't enter because of Chelsea.
10th place Newcastle got the last slot.

As I said, the qualification rules were stupid, but that's how the FA decided to keep it for a good while after one club per city was abolished. Still done well to win the thing though.
If Liverpool qualitfied for cup winners cup they'd enter that. It was always seen as a cup to be won rather than the fairs cup which wasn't well thought of by anyone outside of Newcastle. No other winners make a big deal of it. The qualification rules you speak of were a mess. Finishing lower midtable and qualifying for example devalued it. It was the equivilent of the anglo italian cup.

"It was the equivalent of the anglo italian cup"......Which is still higher up the pecking order than the pizza cup

Not one person on here has said anything about todays final. Its a trophy we're entered into. Why not try to win it? I wouldn't expect you to understand as you've only been to Wembley to play Spurs since it opened. Cup finals are an entirely different experience. To us today is a nice little extra. We won't hail it as a great achievement in 50 years time. The hope is its a stepping stone to bigger things. Our club has hope, all you have is OUR message board and your bitterness. Have a nice day

The best way of describing how stupid the net spend argument is by comparing two clubs with similar historys over the past 5 seasons, Brighton and NUFC both promoted as 1st and 2nd in the championship that season

The season previous to their promotion campaigns Newcastle were in the premier league and Brighton were 3rd in the championship

Brighton spent 12m that season
NUFC spent 97m

16/17 - both teams in championship and finish 1st and 2nd

Brighton spend 8m
NUFC spend 58m ......... they also recoup 91m (sourced from our geordie friends website for consistency)
******************************************************************************************************************************************

At this stage both are premier league clubs, from only those two seasons:
However this still doesnt tell the true story of the past two seasons.

NUFC wages in 15/16 were roughly 70m so adding this figure to their transfer fees, NUFC actually spent 167m on player costs in 2015/2016 Brighton spent roughly 31m on wages add that to transfer fees, 167m vs 39m = End of season 1 comparison
***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Season both were promoted, Brigton spent 31m on player wages, NUFC spent approx 105m on wages, End of season two comparison, Brighton spend 51m NUFC spend 72m (Whilst the club obviously made a 33m profit on selling players, they were spending over 100m on player wages)

2015/2016 = NUFC spent 167m Brighton spend 39m = NUFC spent 128m more than Brighton on their squad

2016/2017 = NUFC spent 72m vs Brightons spend 39 = again NUFC spent 33m more than Brighton on their squad.

As both teams entered the premier league NUFC had spent 161m more than Brigton on transfer fees and wages. If an intellgient NUFC fan can now show that Brighton have spent much more since being in the premier league to reflect this huge deficit il agree that the net spend argument holds true but they know they cant

Thats a wea mindset right there. Rub it in about the pizza cup, armed with the knowledge we know its lower league. Any mackem hapiness is misery to them especially as they are going down. Celebrate any small victory.
