Well, he appointed the wrong man in McClaren, he didn't sack McClaren when it was clear he wasn't up to the job. So yeah, getting relegated in that season was chiefly Ashley and McClaren's fault. Just as his naivete and arrogance was chiefly responsible for our relegation in 2009. And if we go down this season, it'll be chiefly his fault again.

The money raised by player sales (c£90m) paid for the player purchases (c£57m), Ashley loaned the club £30m and promptly took it back. Not sure you give him praise for that, when it's his own hole he's digging himself out of.

NET SPEND!!😂

We could go round and round for ages here. Benitez did well, but not enough and we were relegated under his watch. Had McClaren been sacked after the Chelsea hammering and Benitez brought in with a little more time, we might have had enough to stay up, who knows?

The aim, it seems, is to get a Newcastle fan to blame Benitez for our relegation. Which is silly, because there are much bigger factors which lead to our second relegation. The owner, and the previous manager chief among them. You say Benitez had 10 games to save our season, McClaren had 28. Where's the blame for him? Why do you focus on the 1.3PpG Benitez won, instead of the 0.85PpG that McClaren managed?

Oh, that's right, it's because the Newcastle fans liked Benitez, so sunderland fans must insist he's over-rated/to blame, and we didn't like McClaren so sunderland fans must insist he's underrated/not to blame. You're grown men ffs.

Well it was followed by a really enjoyable season in the Championship, where we won lots of games, and got promoted as Champions at the first time of asking, then a 10th placed finish in the top flight.

Tell me, how'd you enjoy the 16/17 season in the Premier League, and the season that followed in the Championship, and the season in League 1 that followed that?
10 games including playing all your relagation rivals was more than enough.

As you say, it wasn't Benitez's fault you were relegated. So it won't be Bruce's fault this year then?

Never mentioned Super Steve McLaren so I dunno what you're on about.
