If the criticism was directed more accurately, it'd quicken that compartmentalism, but that's a lot to ask of other people. Why should they try and make anything easier for Newcastle fans?

The Saudis are a vile state and should not get to bask in reflected praise, or glory by pumping money into a community institution. But who's really to blame for allowing it? The government, the PL, the new owners and even Mike Ashley. So if the criticism from other fans and the media were directed at those groups it'd be easier for Newcastle fans to resist the urge to leap to the clubs' defence. But like I said, it's easier to splash a picture of a daft lad in a headscarf on the back page, under a headline declaring something like 'Newcastle fans warm welcome for the murderers of Khashoggi'. That's better copy.

Unfortunately it misdirects the conversation. PL, Government shouldn't have allowed this takeover. And they're the ones who should be held accountable.

But you say it shouldn't have been allowed. The PL and / or the government shouldn't have let it happen. That's fine, and I agree that's where the blame lies, much more so than on the daft mag with a tea towel on his head.

But, given that, surely you accept that the fans of Newcastle could have had a voice during the two odd years it dragged on for. Could have voiced discontent and suggested that the PL and government should be blocking it. Instead you (your fans) did the opposite. We want Saudi posts, people marching to the PL headquarters, people getting MPs involved. Not to remind them that they should oppose it, but to actively campaign for them to allow it. To sit there now and say "we don't have a say" doesn't make your fan base immune from criticism. If you'd kicked up a fuss at the time and made a big thing about how the values of your club and your community are broadly incompatible with those of the Saudi state, they'd quite possibly have moved on. Instead you rolled out the red carpet...

And this is the reason the Saudi’s bought Newcastle.

I read earlier that MBS paid more for a fake picture than what he paid for Newcastle. Could you imagine how much he would have paid for the propaganda images of British citizens running around with Saudi flags and tea towels on their heads the other day. These images will be shown all around the world and he will be delighted. He probably can’t believe how quickly the sportswashing took place and how cheap it was to achieve.

Any mag happy to play their part in this should hang their heads in shame. I would like to believe the more decent mags out there would play their part in stopping this and at least voice they disapproval at games, but I know this will never happen as long as money is seen to be flowing into the club. This weekends game will see swathes of Saudi flags being waved and simpletons wearing their tea towels to assist in the Saudi regime trying to portray themselves as a canny bunch of lads.

Did it work?
I didn't do anything myself. I just went with the flow as a fan. Why? Because I take the rough with the smooth and understand that my issue is about players and manager/coaches. That's what I'm a fan of.
What goes on behind the scenes will go on regardless.

Caulkin was on Football Focus with a lad from True Faith and were saying quite plainly the Saudis are awful, certainly each of the Newcastle podcasts I listen say the same, there's plenty of criticism of the Saudis from the fans, and I'm sure more will come after the giddiness subsides.

Thanks for that - it was I was hoping to hear. At the moment the England football team is providing some moral leadership for the first time just as Newcastle have taken football into the gutter. I hope you are correct about dissent in the future.

The lack of outrage would be among any set of fans. Obviously it can be argued because it's just us at the moment that's under the attack from all angles.
It goes back to subjective morality.
I keep saying it because it's true.

I didn't want rid of Ashley because I was worried some chancer would come in after buyout and put us into oblivion.
However, if it turned out like that and we ended up in the doldrums but still running as a club, I'd still be the same fan and supporter.

It just so happens we've got these owners and again, there's nothing I can do and nor am I going to apologise for it. I'm a fan.
