You say that but look at how city are protrayed in the media. They talk as if Pep has magically taken City from league 2 to the summit and how he has some how created an all conquering team from nothing.


So be in denial but Newcastle will be bigged up exactly the same when they spend the £££
 
Rivalry and human rights aside I think it’s good for the region. If they do invest heavily to the level of Man City then the whole of the north east will be improved.

I really like our current owner and certainly don’t have green eyes. We are building something special at Sunderland and it feels like our club rather than a retail business.

This one will attract much more scrutiny though, there’s a huge negative perception of Saudi Arabia in the U.K. particularly when it’s comes to women, LGBT issues and perceived involvement in 9/11, and there’s a direct link between the state and the club.

Aye, not going to lie, it's a worry because they are being taken over by people with immense wealth, but the detail will be what matters. They can show all the graphics they want about £300bn, but that's the total they've got with all of their investments. How much of it will be available to be ploughed into a football club? How much will they be allowed to plough into a football club? How much will they want to plough into a football club?

I get their excitement, human rights issues aside I'd be excited if that money was coming to safc, but whether the reality matches up to the hope only time will tell. I'm sure they'll improve mind, if the Saudis want to make profit they'll need to invest in the squad and the facilities etc. As fans that should be enough, but now they've seen the eye watering figures anything less than doing a man city will be a disappointment.

My main worry is that they might be playing a long game. Buy a club for £300m and sell it for £500m is cracking business, but it's not a hugely significant amount for them. The alternative is that they see a super league as inevitable, and if they can find a way to get Newcastle into it (which they could, they'd pay their way in, the ESL was never about the best clubs) then that could be a massive recurring revenue stream. But time will tell, nowt we can do but sit back and hope it falls flat

To be fair, if they randomly did fuck loads of investments, it would benefit the whole region. I work for a main contractor in the construction industry and we have supply chain partners from all over the North East. Even if all the work was in Newcastle there'd be lots of employment opportunities for people and businesses in Sunderland. That being said, I don't think they're going to do anything of the sort. Probably invest in the training facilities, maybe spend on the ground (or buy a new ground). They might build some properties but I doubt there'll be anything life changing in that regard

They've bought the mags (aside from the primary sportswash reason) as it's comparatively cheap, run on a very low cost base and profitable. With moderate investment in the infrastructure and squad they should/might be able to turn a decent profit on disposal. First challenge is going to be staying in the PL, appointment the wrong manager and they could very easily go down. January transfer business could also be utterly desperate.

Staveley (during the takeover saga) announced a transfer pot of £250M over 5 seasons. Man City's 2019/20 accounts show the club spent over £350M that year on wages alone, up 11% on the prior year, Christ knows what 21/22 figure will be but presumably close to £400M for the season.
