Kinnear was a joke of an appointment at the time, just like Bruce is this time. How long had he been out of a job, 4,5 years? Where was he before he got the gig? Sacked by Nottingham Forest in the season they were relegated to League 1. When was the last time he managed in the top flight? 1999 with Wimbledon.

Not one of the Premier League teams would have appointed him, just like none of the top flight teams would have appointed Bruce.

Saying it was an ego thing is ridiculous.

none of the top premier league teams appointed bruce though... A mid table team did.
