Get on twitter and say that. They don't take kindly to anyone saying that...the retort will likely be "Enjoy league one", "Sad Mackem B...", "Paedo supporter" but never anything of substance. They came second twice in the 90's and last won the league in 20 something. Absolutely no credibility in any claim of "competing". Even when they were second it was 4 points (and a huge GD) and 8 points. It was hardly last day of the season stuff.

As a Newcastle supporter I don't believe we have any more right to compete than anyone else. However both of those seasons did go to the last day the first season we could still have won the league on the last day of the season if Middlesbrough beat Man Utd. Middlesbrough were comfortably beaten 3-0 and our game against Tottenham petered out and finished 1-1. The next season we were 5th or 6th going into the last day of the season and as we won the last game and those around us got beat we became the first club outside the Champions to qualify for the Champions League and Sunderland and Middlesbrough both got relegated on the same day. Although that one wasn't for the title it was a class day.

Two main options for an undercover phone operation:

  1. Bruceword bingo: purport to be a mag fan who agrees with Cushion Face's version of history "the SAFC fans didn't appreciate you Steve because of your Geordie roots, but I thought you did a great job, getting them to tenth and that." etc, lots of "that's for sure" as well
  2. Pretend to the call handler that you want to talk to him about his plans for the new signings etc, then when you get through ask him all about the novels he wrote and whether he's going to do any more

Apologies, you are correct and your context means you have competed once since 1927.

Sunderland were at Tranmere that day -

And I remember lads on the pool table singing "who's the Champions now scum".
It was literally last day of the season stuff in 96. Man Utd started the day on 79 points and mags on 77.

My mistake - how could I forget the "I'd love it" speech on Sky after the midweek game. So once since 1927.

Point 2

"Err Steve, I really enjoyed your novel 'Striker', when should we expect to see the next instalment as fans of your work like me have been waiting patiently for a long time now"

Personally don't think there's owt wrong with the scum wanting a better more ambitious owner, but what makes them think this "takeover" isn't dead? Even I remember them putting out a public statement where they said the situation had changed so it was no longer possible.

Honestly every time I read anything from thier fans, now the season has started, it makes our situation just a little bit more palatable. I'd absolutely hate to follow them

Bruce “Ho’way Man! Did ya not read my entire Epic Trilogy of Striker! Sweeper! Defender! Wurld class literature!”

Getting willock on is a strange one, surely you'd let the Lad settle in, seems they are pinning all their Hope's on him this season

Even The Sky commentator mention something Sunday. Everyone knows there fans are unrealistic.

Said something along the lines of I hope the Newcastle fans aren't expecting him to carry on his goalscoring record.

It'll be blind hope, and the repeated messages from PCP and Ashley that say they're still fully committed and reports from journalists saying the Saudis are still keen if the arbitration and competition lawsuits go in favour of Ashley & the club.
