What I have never really understood in the argument the Mags make against the PL is that they see them as corrupt. Surely if the Premier League were corrupt, they would want the deal to go through which in turn would bring more attention to the league, higher calibre of players, more financial spend, the list is endless.

What benefit is it to the PL by ‘protecting’ (which they don’t), a top 6?

Even more so when Leicester isn’t even deemed as part of the big 6 and have had more success than United, Arsenal, Spurs etc over recent years?

Perhaps Levy and co really were so terrified of Demarai Gray and Hamza Choudhury dominating the Premier League for years that they did appeal to Richard Masters to block the takeover. I doubt it would have made any difference if they did. The Premier League have always taken money from where ever it came - its basically the organization's guiding philosophy. I'm sure that with Raab and Cameron leaning on them to approve the deal that would have been their preferred outcome.

The spanner in the works was the massive piracy committed by the Saudis, pissing off the tv companies that keep the millions of pounds flowing and makes everyone involved in Premier League football disgustingly rich. If this wasn't the case the PL would have turned a blind eye to the fairly obvious ownership issues regarding separation between PiF and the Saudi state, and they would have waved the whole thing through imo.

From what I recall there was a bit of back and forth over the piracy issue, before the Saudi's exacerbated the situation even further, and then flounced off and announced they weren't interested anymore. No one has heard anything from them since, and they have done almost fuck all to resolve the piracy issue either, which is one indication that they mightn't even be interested anymore.

After watching Simon Jordan questioning on talkSPORT Amanda Staveley on if the Saudis were still at the table twice she stuttered on both occasions and eventually said the consortium were all at the table. She didn’t sound confident and it was stated they had withdrawn. At a guess she’s probably fighting to get an approval then go back to them to say there’s a clear path for you to buy the club now. Personally I don’t think it will happen now unless she comes back with other investors.

It might be time to start believing them when they said they had pulled out of the deal.

Me neither.
Masters and the PL care about their product and that alone. They don't want a "big 6". They want a "big 8, or 9, or 10 or more".

The more huge clubs in the league, competing to sign the best players from all over the world, the more money they can command in TV deals. There is no logic at all in them "protecting the 6" and no evidence either.

Ask your local mag this, and they have no answer. They just look at you stunned, as if they can't believe you don't accept a completely made up theory they concocted.

Most of them in this takeover are one or two steps above the "flat earthers". If you challenge their views, or provide evidence, they can only respond with "that's what the authorities want you to think".
