Notre Dame (Paris) on fire?

Such a sad sight. An iconic building, soaked in beauty and history damaged.

Sitting it the slap bang centre of pairs it will be painful for years to come.
 


Just heard about this. Visited with the bairns last year. It's a stunning building and the altars round the back of the main altar were beautiful. Really saddened :(

To put it in perspective, it's not actually that rare in recent years, per Le Monde (at least in comparison to the huge number of churches in France):

Malgré le récent incendie de l’église Saint-Sulpice, les feux dans les églises sont des événements rares, nous rappelle Anne-Aël Durand, journaliste des Décodeurs du Monde. Alors qu’on estime qu’il y a près de 45 000 édifices chrétiens (églises, cathédrales, chapelles) en France, seuls 65 incendies ou tentatives d’incendie avaient été constatés en 2017, et 96 en 2016, par le Service central du renseignement territorial.
