Not Roy Keane

Surely we ain’t going into another day with no appointment........

Most important thing now is to have a quick appointment if it’s not Keane and quit while we’re behind so we can start moving forward.

Surely the only good things about this ridiculous process is, if the lead candidate says no, we’ve actively been in discussion with other candidates and can quickly appoint our second choice.

You’d have to be incompetent to the point of gross negligence to let this slide into another day. Oh wait, oh yea that’s right, we’re Sunderland and that’s how we role. Not happy with kicking ourselves in the nuts, we gotta do it twice to make sure it hurt properly. Classic
Are the floodlights on at the SOL? that's a dead giveaway it's happening.

Absolutely not.

He couldn't legitimately request it, and we couldn't in any way pay it.
Nor would I want us to, it would bankrupt the club, we're already losing money on a weekly basis.

There's no way on earth we spoke to him 2 or 3 times over a week or two and and then said "Oh Roy, we've just checked the sofa and realised we can't afford 50K per week."

Whoever fed him that rubbish must be laughing his head off.
He picked it up from our fans on Twitter unfortunately

Why all of a sudden is speed important, when clearly we need the right manager, not the next one on the list, so they can tick the box and cross it off the to do list.
This season is fucked. Play offs at best, so look around, get he cheque book out and get the right one, not the convenient one.

The jobs he’s had in football for the last 10 years are as number 2 for Ireland, Villa and Forest, where he wouldn’t been on relatively nothing and wasn’t motivated by money. There is no way in a million years money was the problem here. No way.
i agree completely....he was actually paid very highly in that ireland job..but not more than he could have earned doing other stuff.

I just cant get past the point he hasnt had a job in over 10 years

I dunno what perfect job with perfect owners he is waiting for but it doesnt exist

he wont get a better offer

bottled it

Good chance he did when he realised our dodgy league position. He also didnt get a Championship job.

Am I the only one to believe ....it had nothing to do with keanes wages ....the reason that Keane is not coming here is surely to do with he wants full control of transfers(in and out) and a guaranteed transfer budget in the summer.....that to me is way more likely .....it would also be what kind of length of contract ....I don't think Keane was being greedy more a control thing ....
I can't believe it was about money because I think money is the first thing people talk about in these scenarios, or at least the second or third. I don't think you get two weeks into a negotiation with somebody before finding out how much they expect to be paid. Much more likely to be about control imo.

the club are a shambles in this process, I am not defending them, but Keane didnt want it enough

He is so unproven and done nothing in 10 years, this was a great no lose opportunity for him

And if he thinks he will be able to manage a big club now with total control he is deluded, first of all thats not how they are run, secondly nobody will offer him a job

we all know why Keane said no now offering only 3 month contract why they fuck they speak to him they surely knew that he never be agree to that

Also a man who took us from the darkest depths of the second tier to the Premier and kept us there.
So you've got a bit of a clue as to what you're getting.
Just saying.

A long time ago when Roy Keane had a very definate aura coming straight out of playing and it lifted the players in his very first managerment job. Since then it didn't work at Ipswich and some coaching roles not been brilliant either and the aura is gone apart from Sunderland fans who remember those exciting times. He's now seen as a management failure who is an amusing lunatic on TV.

Look, if it was him it was going to be interesting to see if he could do the business, but I think there's more evidence to suggest not.

I'm not disappointed in the slightest its not Keane.

People like him is the hugely debatable point. We wouldn't be getting a current Premier Manager , or even a current Championship manager stepping down and therefore someone you know what you are getting for that price.

You'd be buying a person who nobody else in football has believed in for 11 years, potentially outdated, known to be volatile and no real history of being good with younger players. Hes also not even a coach. Basically a huge risk.

So his worth at present is not 800k to 1m a year its more like 300k a year, like LJ's reported salary.

Got us promoted from the championship and survived a season in the prem?

I mean, he’s done it.

Managers with less repeatedly get work.

I don't believe its a " no lose opportunity " for him ...mess up here and his managerial career is over ...yeah he might still have a pundit job but no chairman would touch him again ....Keane had loads to lose

And because of that ,Keane would want full control ,look at Ipswich job he brought in leadbitter and Carlos Edwards ....Keane likes people and players he knows ...and look at Johnathon Walters situation ....he had a bust up with him and soon he was gone ....his tutors were managers like Clough and Ferguson who were never dictated to by their boards.
