North Stand

I laughed at them getting free scarves, until I got to my seat with the silver flag

What on god's earth was that???? Most of them then fell off their sticks, tore or both. Would have been better giving out free red n white scarves

Most embarrassing day ever as a Sunderland fan, I've been there constantly for nearly 50 years

My flag split in half as did a fair few around me . I wouldn't have went with the foil flags personally but can appreciate the time and effort that went into the displays. I think that's twice now they've used foil and twice in my eyes it didn't have the desired effect. Rest of the display was top notch though.

That risk is there every other game though, and yet the club do nothing about it, and that’s the route cause.

At the end of last season we were all expecting something, either an unpopular move of fans back downstairs, or some kind of net or other method of catching shite that’s been hoyed from upstairs. Had the club done this, then Saturday would have been a lesser issue, as we’d have been able to fill that area, and once it was done, it was done.

As it happens, we ended up bringing the mags to the ground, where we were unable to segregate them easily outside, we were unable to guarantee the safety of fans below, and took the easy way out by just giving them the lot.

Piss poor planning all round.
Chickens came home to roost, the lack of either willingness to pay for it or balls to make an unpopular decision lead to us just giving away the whole "home end" that we will never live down. We kicked the can down the road for too long and the weekend was the payback for doing so.

Most games this season there has been less than 1500 away fans .
They could put them all at the very back covering all the blocks from concourse onwards .
They would have further to throw then 😉

In my opinion the more people the more noise. The BCB is about 3 rows of seats and would allow people to be semi pampered and in the “home” end

It wouldn't work though as you'd have people standing in front of the BCB which would be just a big big problem. The BCB wouldn't want to be sitting in front of the knackers, unless you moved that back upstairs but then the singing bit downstairs would be smaller anyway (3 less rows).

No-one wants to be upstairs unless they have to. imo it'd be much better to have a singing section stretching from the SEC around to the SWC - if the family zone shifted and the whole stand bouncing.

Just my opinion that of course though.

Eh? The north stand was the original home end. It was designed to be that way. The south stand have the police control box behind it and cells for the purpose trouble could be
You probably can’t remember but the South west corner was so popular for being so close to the away fans
Didn’t the Main Stand Paddock season ticket holders who sat next to the Roker end move there en-masse when the SoL 1st opened?

Not sure, I seem to remember they had a mobile ticket office on site to facilitate the move. Was in a shipping container I think they just bought season cards wherever they wanted

There are posters like me who are vehemently against relocating the away fans, one of the reasons is to prevent the rubbish we had to experience on Saturday. If posters don't believe it's an advantage to the away team to have their fans pitch-side (especially in a derby), they're crazy.

Going forward we need to ensure that if we draw the mags or Boro, this does not happen again and they must be restricted to the upper tier only. The club have totally let us down.

And to appease the fans who are concerned about projectiles coming over, the club should install netting or some form of protective canopy over the lower tier as a matter of urgency and or ensure there is additional security or police in the away end to help deter it from happening.

Why do people keep referring to the North stand as the home end?
It is? South Stand is knacker central these days but it was meant to be where the away fans were located. so in many ways, it was always knacker central.

The club gave up the home end and it/was a disgrace. Away fans should be in no other place than the South Stand, moving them up top has always been an utterly ridiculous move.

The fans donated for the display which included the flags. It's the best that So37 could get for the budget. If you think you can do better then get in touch with them and you can be in charge of procurement
I could do better with my eyes shut

Wearside bit was great, foil wasn’t

Although the mag fans were tame, having away supporters pitchside does improve the atmosphere

Yeah there was. Me my mates and our kids all got seats together in the 'family section' south east corner, so we were pretty much directly facing them. Man they generated some atmosphere them lads. I particularly remember them getting the whole ground 'revved up' singing all the anti-mag songs from their repetoire the home game before the 1st derby at the SoL, happy days. Quite what they'd make of the club not allowing anti-mag banners and flags in the ground / mods deleting anti-Mag threads and posts on here would be interesting to hear...
