North Stand extension

Yes we were selling out and it pretty much paid for itself over the following years.

People will go on about it meaning we couldn't sign players or some other nonsense, but it was tied to a long term loan (as the stadium was) and Reid was never denied funds.

We bought one - Hutchinson in 2000, funnily enough the same year the extension opened.
I imagine we paid a fair bit up front like

When you were mid table in prem you didnt sell out.

Plenty of 37k crowds.

Only way you sell 49k now every home game is if you are challenging for top 6 European places in prem.

You aren't selling 49k mid table in prem.
We average just under 41k now as a championship team without parachute payments so isn't expected to challenge for automatic promotion. We averaged just under 47k in 00/01 in the first year since the extension after a 7th place finish. Under Bruce we finished an unconvincing 10th in the premier league 2010 and averaged similar to what we get currently at 41k.

It would be reasonable to suggest based on the above should we go up we'd average mid 40s. And if we weren't whipping boys I think we'd sustain this.

We'd have to punch above our weight to sell out every week. But if we're reasonably well ran IMO we're selling out a few times a season and averaging 44-45k.

F#cking mentalists on here at times, let’s stop fans being able to watch some games so the ground looks full more often. The extension has meant thousands and thousands of supporters have had the chance to watch games they wouldn’t have been able to otherwise, it blows my mind we have supporters who don’t think that’s a good thing.

And reidy wasted absolutely millions on complete dross in his final couple of years. Hats off to Bob for putting the money into something of legacy 👏

Approx figures wasted:
Leslandres 5m
Nunez 2.5m (the wrong player?)
Chocolate fireguard aka Carsten fredguard 2.5m
Tore Andre flo 8m
Medina 2m
Burnt hass 2.5m
...and plenty more. Could have extended the south stand too with all that cash.

These lot mentioned above either didn't play, or were absolutely miles off the pace, or flo's case simply couldn't be bothered

Your figures are a bit out, but yeah we wasted some money. The biggest disaster was Flo as he nearly put us into admin

A Leeds in an attendance thread *shock*

Exactly. We don't have to sell out every week to justify the extension.
It seems to be part of modern football psyche that full grounds are the be all and end all. It’s complete bollox, clubs that sell out every game have no incentive to not take the fans for granted and take the p#ss out of the support.

Medina was 3.5m iirc, players like Bjorklund at 1.75m offered next to nowt as well, a decent three months then finished. Marcus Stewart gave value later but was a waste of time for the PL - same with Wright at 3m, Piper was injured but cost 3.5m then there was loads of smaller signings which barely appeared.

So much money wasted over that period barring a couple of signings. Reid even admits it himself, though he does also say he wasn't given the funds to get top top players, which is true, but our spends against what was coming in from Sky at the time wasn't bad at all.

There has never been 49,000 seats. When it was extended in 2000 Capacity was 48,300. Of that over the next 2 seasons 24 of the 38 home games were home sells outs. Only away clubs not filling there 3,300 allocation meant crowds were were not 48k+ Complete Sell Outs.

According to SAFC or might have been Bob Murray at the time it was increased from 48300 to 49k by putting in three rows at the back of the extension - can't remember the exact time and I can't actually find the article at the moment, but it's definitely something that was said at ine point.

Highest attendance from what I can see was only ever 48.355
