Nordi

It's difficult making a case for many of our past players getting in this team.

We've had a few strikers and attacking players that would (Defoe, Phillips, Sess, Steed) but would struggle to fit any midfielders, defenders or keepers in over the current lot.

Not Henderson we wouldn’t. Probably our most talented and successful player ever after he left us

Quite a few on here wanted rid of him a couple games ago (forest iirc?) Calling him a bad egg.

Quality player. Think his best games probably have been at cb but he’s done well at rb as well with a couple assists. Lucky to have him and he’s a sore loser, which I love.

That was sad as fuck and obvious even at the time that they were talking through their arse.
Some don't know they're born.

I don’t understand it, I’m glad it happened though. This lad would walk into teams like Liverpool imho. I remember getting right into with a few Liverpool fans when I was telling them nordi would walk into their team earlier in the season. This lad is pure class, the mad thing is he’s a hard worker and there’s no big time Charlie stuff about him. He just wants to win and to be the best he can. It’s f***ing wild he would’ve improved all but maybe one or two sides in this league and we managed to sign him as a newly promoted side. Sometimes clubs fans big up players way above what they are I think we almost do the opposite at times, this lad could play in the top four and be one of the better players at that level.

I think has previous injury record and the PSG manager not liking him, went massively in our favour.

No way Steed or Sess get anywhere near, for me. Both were one good game in four players with zero end product. Sess, especially always flattered to deceive.
I think you could stick both wide and they'd be better than our current wingers at the minute, maybe not long term with them all being so young but Sess, Enzo and Steed behind a striker would work well imo.
He wasn't the player he became when he was here though, I wouldn't take SAFC Henderson over any of our current midfielders.
Aye that was my thinking with Hendo (and Pickford), they went on to be class but we really didn't see those versions.

Has he gone under the radar? What a f***ing player . Like a Rolls Royce on the pitch. Makes it look easy...up there with the best defenders I have ever seen at the SOL. And he seems to love us..take a bow Nordi lad.
yeah its mad that he cost us £12m? he should be worth more than this, like 25-30m

Nordi has been excellent for us this season but he is not the perfect player you make out. The free header that Pedro missed on Sunday was due to Nordi losing his man at the back post. For Forest’s 5th goal against us Nordi lost the ball in the centre circle and could not be arsed to get back. He had plenty of time before they actually scored the goal.

That said, I love him to bits and look forward to seeing him again next season.

I mean most the team had an off game against forest. At right back I don’t think there’s many better in the league tbh.

Have heard quite a few of this current team when asked the question of "is X the best you've seen for Sunderland?"
I think Roefs, Mukiele, Reinildo, Xhaka, Le Fee are all in that conversation (strongest XI). Trying to put recency bias aside, have we ever had better than some of the current crop?
Hats off to the recruitment is all you can say.

He's a class player but I don't think we have a 'best' back four. It depends on who we're playing. We have a setup that can be solid and sit, and others where we're looking to push players up. Mukiele would be pretty advanced at times the past couple of games and Geertruida would sit behind him.

A centre half pairing of Ballard and Mukiele probably wouldn't have given Watkins so much room at Villa, but maybe the same pairing wouldn't have taken the game to Chelsea as much as Mukiele and O'Nien were able to with Geertruida and Hume on the pitch too.

Roefs is a promising young keeper who has made a good start overall. Fisted the ball into his own net v Villa at home, passed to the opposition for Forest 2nd goal at home and was at fault for Palmer's goal on Sunday. He has a lot to improve on before you can compare him with Montgomery, Turner, Gordon, Pickford, Sorenson among others.

Monty and Turner were before my time but the others all made errors too.

Pickford was a good keeper for one season in which we finished bottom and were relegated, he didn't become the England number 1 until after he left. He made errors that season too - he let one go through his arms against Southampton early on iirc.

Gordon was slated for the majority of his time here - very unfairly so imo - it wasn't until the period where he played with the plate in his arm 3 years after signing that people came to appreciate him.

Sorensen broke his nose playing for Denmark in 2001, played Blackburn in the following game and Souness had their players target him with elbows all game. He lost a lot of confidence and never looked the same.

I agree it's early days with Roefs but he's right up there imo.

We got him because of Xhaka remember. He personally made the call asking him to join with him

Lets hope Xhaka makes a few more calls over the summer..

He lost Watkins at Villa too (but O'Nien took the flak). He is often slow to get back from attacks if you watch him specifically, but he's class generally

I'd not have him at his peak ahead of Xhaka and Sadiki. Certainly not in our set up/style of play.

Prime Henderson would have walked into Sadikis slot. 360 appearances captaining Liverpool winning multiple trophies and captaining England and you are seriously suggesting Sadiki (As great as he is) would keep him on the bench

Before his legs went Henderson was also far more box to box
