These forums are 99% a 'reap what you sow' situation.

Of course there are the 1% genuinely disturbed but that's true in any 'society'.

In truth the Shields brigade had some early fun & support but got carried away and went way OTT.

It's now out of hand yet they lash out continually when a little restraint & conciliation would work better.

But, if truth be told, they're relishing all of this while waving their hands in the air pleading innocence.
Fair enough but to an outsider you know when a SSFC thread shows up your heart sinks as without fail it ends up as handbags over nothing

The personal attacks on @Ponteland Mackem have been downright embarrassing

agree with this. Ponteland Mackem is the son of the saviour and should be given mod status on here to cleanse this place of all the haters.

Agreed, I dared to say that I thought they were going a bit far and was then subjected to abuse and people trawling my old posts. Crazy.

A bunch of sad bullies trying to get their own way mate. It's pathetic. Look at some of the comments on this thread, it's really childish stuff. As @Reiver has already said, if they hadn't started acting themselves, I don't think anyone would have noticed. I don't recall anyone disrespecting Shields (the place or the people that live there) on this thread, on the other hand there is a variety of anti-mackem sentiment which is crazy considering these posters supposedly support Sunderland

the fact is that sanddancers are about 15 to 20% of Sunderlands support.

it has been this way all the way through the 1900's since the demise of the south shields league team in the 1920's.

there was a glitch in the early 1990's due to the keegan area at the scum

without south shields support Sunderland would be another Middlesbrough at best, possibly even a hull

so forgive us for our sins in supporting the home town as well (even taking on board the 2015ers stuff as accurate)

until shields get into the league we are not a threat

but as always in the north east home is where the heart is, even across 5 or miles

it's just the way it is in football

this should not extend to life in general

So you're saying, I know an extreme case but bear with me, if Shields one day reached the football league, would you stop supporting Sunderland in favour of supporting Shields if it turned out that season tickets were around the same cost? All theoretical I know.

Yes. Me personally I would support Shields. But my affection for Sunderland could never die.

If I could put this into perspective back in the early 70's until the early 80's before immigrating to Australia I visited 54 away grounds supporting Sunderland. Probably about 10 0r so supporting Shields.

I plan my holidays back to the UK around Sunderland games. Even including a 5 day trip for the Man City game at Wembley.

But if Shields played Sunderland in the FA Cup round 3 or beyond I would be absolutely 100% for South Shields.

South Shields people really support Sunderland by default is what I am saying. I don't mean this in a negative way. I'm sure that you have met Shields people that are Sunderland till they die but this is because the town has not been represented for nearly 90 years in the league.

It would be great if they were and to be honest I think that is quite a threat to Sunderland Football Club.

That's fine mate, but in that case, why should a Sunderland message board create a sub-forum for a group of fans that would choose another club over ours if they reached the football league?

As posted several times, there are already a number of freely available northern league and non-league forums. There is also the opportunity for Shields fans to setup their own messgae board without imposing themselves on this one. This for some reason is being ignored, so why are some so desperate to have their own forum here? When they can simply have it elsewhere. I think it goes back to @Reiver 's point and a yearn for attention.

But in the mean time, they'll use this forum to drum up interest? And expect the mods to create their own messageboard for them whilst taking advantage of the traffic it brings?

Just another tedious attention seeking windup fad that will likely be all forgotten about this time next year, Grassetto marra.

I don't really see a need for a sub-forum, people are welcome to discuss non-league or any other club on this forum and it is a more interesting place if they do. However, we are a Sunderland site, not a general football site and that will always be the focus.

The trouble with some of the "Shields" people is that they couldn't resist overdoing things and creating lots of threads full of rubbish. Some of them have rightly been banned for deliberately spamming the board.
If they had stuck to a couple of threads and sensible posts there wouldn't have been a problem.

if shields fans really want to post on a shields forum they can go to curlys corner shop on the sanddancers (I'm the moderator in Australia believe it or not)

there's is actually a south shields fc sub forum currently locked which could be reopened

there was simply too much in fighting on the south shields fc forum a few years ago so it had to be locked

I'll put up a post in Curlys corner Shop and see if there is any interest from here.

Roger, what about @gipetto and @dangermows spamming the ordinary Shields threads? seems very narrow minded to only focus on the one or two shields fans when others are just as bad.

Perhaps the same punishment should be applied to those delibrately sabotaging the Shields threads?
