No English scorer

Just spotted on the BBC match preview today that we are the only PL team so far this season without an English goalscorer. Given this is unlikely to change, quite interesting as unlikely ever to have happened before in our history.

I'm not remotely bothered about this BTW, more than happy with our multi-national brigade, just an interesting side note on our amazing season.

It has happened in our history, n were the only club too iirc.

In general I think the standard of English players is dropping across the league. Too many foreigners playing in the premiership now. English players are getting overlooked for cheaper options from overseas. The only reason a lot of clubs are buying English is to comply with the regs. I know it’s been happening for years but it gets worse every season.

You look at English players that played in the Premier League back in the 90's. A lot of them would be Championship players nowadays because of the amount of foreign players we have.

I think the homegrown rules put the prices of the English players up that much that clubs have to look abroad. I get the idea behind the rule but in practice it isn't working

Plays for Northern Ireland but Dan Ballard is English.

As most have said Ballard is English buts it's because the overpricing of talent from here Ramsey 40 million for example our 2 engine room midfielders cost 10 million less.

Slightly off topic but I bet Ballard has slight regrets about choosing NI, he’d be going to the World Cup with England this summer imo.
Was thinking that yesterday when Dan Burn came off the bench for Newcastle. Surely Dan Ballard is a better player than Dan Burn.

Perhaps need some kind of Trump-style tariffs on foreign players. Probably illegal however.
