Nightmare Scenario

100% this ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻

Fulham will want to finish strongly like every club playing at home on the last day.

Do the visitors not have a poor record down there too?

Seems Newcastle have a good recent record v Fulham, although Fulham won the last game against them down there.

People need to get over this.

We've far exceeded any and all expectations and have beaten them twice.

There's no Sunderland fan on earth who wouldn't have taken that prior to a ball being kicked.

You can already see people being wound up over it potentially happening and I hope they won't try and spoil what has been an amazing season, if it happens.
Totally agree, but it would be a very nice bonus to finish above them too. It hasn't happened often enough in recent decades.

So I’d love to finish above the scum because the meltdown would be epic. All summer long epic proportions of whataboutery.

But ultimately it’s completely irrelevant, we will be level or a point behind if we don’t win. Anyone in their right mind would’ve been ecstatic about this last August. They are utterly devastated their whole season is about finishing above us!

It would be nice but if they feel the need to go overboard celebrating it let them be. We should only worry about us and the opportunity we have

I'd put europe ahead of winning, if we get beat off chelsea but then the teams ahead of us get docked points or banned from europe or something similar I'd take that over winning and not qualifying.
Well yeah but i was just being realistic. Ideally the FA will just give us the title.

Cartel, innit.

They haven't been allowed to spend enough money to finish above us iirc.

Eddie's magic hands have been tied.

I don't think there's a nightmare scenario really.

Conference league is an awful result for them after spending the guts of a billion quid. They have a complete rebuild ahead of them, and no UCL football to offer their few good players. Finishing above us means nothing really after the two derby losses. This season has been an absolute disaster for them, and it's likely to get worse as the agents start sticking the knife in.

Meanwhile, every one of us would have taken 12th place and back-to-back derby wins at the start of the season. At worst, we'll finish 11 points head of our ambitious target.

Ending this season any higher than 12th would be the cherry on top of the cherry on top of the cake for us, but we should all reflect on a great season no matter what happens in the remaining games.
This.

What the Conference League would mean for us and what it would mean for them are very different things. They would genuinely really rather avoid it (that isn't my guess either; I've got multiple Mag mates who have said it). They've gone from Champions League this year to a major drop off next year. Conference football to them is another reminder of their downward trajectory. For us, it is the opposite.

RE: finishing above them in the table - would anyone swap the two derby wins just to finish above them? Hell no. They'd be the same. Heck, at this point they'd accept finishing below us if it could even let them undo Brobbey's last-minute winner at SJP. That goal and win are the stuff history remembers and memories are made of. If they finish 9th and we finish 11th no-one will remember in five years' time. I guarantee you I will remember Brobbey's goal and full time scenes until the day I die.

Please someone work this out

If Chelsea do not win tonight and we draw on Sunday.

Liverpool win

Mags win could put them ahead of us and in Europe!

FFS

Chelsea v Spurs - Draw
Sunderland v Chelsea - Draw
Liverpool v Brentford - Home win
Fulham v Newcastle - away win

All of that needs to happen for Newcastle to qualify for the Conference League after spending Champions League level money for several years and you're talking like it's already happened and is the end of the world.

Even if it did happen, no-one died. We've still been class.

I’m personally not particularly bothered about finishing above them. We’ve beaten them horn and away and that will cut far deeper than us finishing higher. Europe on the other hand would have them giving “you’ve got to fly from Newcastle” etc which would be amusing as it’s all they have this season.

The last time we finished above them, without them going down they beat us 5-1 at their place so this season is far better already.

Not won in 5
Most of their fixtures have been away recently.

Their recent league home form isn’t too bad.

Brighton - won 2-1
Everton - lost 2-1
Spurs - won 2-1
West Ham - lost 1-0
Burnley - won 3-1
Villa - won 1-0
Bournemouth - lost 1-0

Mags get beat and Chelsea get beat on Sunday, leaving that titchy club 9 miles north of the Sunderland coastline FIVE points behind their European neighbours.

they'll celebrate like they've won the FA cup if they finish above us.

imagine if we get into europe AND finish 5 points above them. the footballing gods need to make this happen, just for the meltdowns. i'll spend the entire bank holiday monday consuming mag social media if its happens
