Next England Captain

Not a lot to choose from once Cook resigns/gets pushed.

For me there's only four candidates - Anderson, Bell, Broad & Prior. I would rule out Bell as he doesn't seem to be the type and Broad is a major no no after the debacle of his limited overs captaincy. I also think Anderson is similar to Bell in that he doesn't look like captain material. That leaves Prior and he doesn't fill me with confidence to do the job either.

In short, we're fucked.

In my opinion the England squad has to find a way of getting Morgan into the side. He, in my opinion, should be the next captain.

Nothing to disagree with there.

Good point. I had completely forgotten about him test wise.

I really think the batting line up lacks diversity and aggression. I know there are plenty doubts about his technique for Test match cricket but he has the right temperament and approach.

There has to be room for him and Stokes. If Ali is barely going to be used as a spinner then I see little point for him in the side

Of those you mention Prior would be stand out for me. Keeper has a good view of what is going on, is close with the slips and he seems to be a motivator/well liked bloke in the dressing room.

Ideally, this.

Bowler captains seem to be rare, but I'd give it to Jimmy.

There's nowt he hasn't seen in international cricket, and that interview at the end tonight showed how much playing for England means to him.

Im not 100% convinced he should be in the side for much longer

Not sure where you fit Morgan into the team, nor am I convinced he is test material. Surely your captain should be picked from your best 11 players

Man of the series. Best swing bowler in the world.

Those doubts about fitting Morgan into the team are quite valid. However, I think that the current Test side looks bewildered and Morgan seems a gritty, aggressive and tough character. That is what this side needs. Wont happen mind

Ali
Robson
Ballance
Bell
Root
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
Jordan
Plunkett
Broad

Are you smoking crack? Drop Cook, Anderson and Prior? Promote Ali to open and saddle the side with only 3 proper bowlers?

I think genuine change is required. Cook is in need of a break (in the style of Graeme Thorpe who came back after a period out and excelled), Anderson looks a shadow of the bowler he was a year or two ago and Buttler needs to be promoted into the fold.

The side and the side's mentality needs freshening up. Cant argue that bowling wise it would be a major gamble. But thats something Id like to see England do. It wont happen though.

I agree that the keeper is in the best position on the pitch to understand what is going on in the game and know what changes to make, as well as the other points made above. My only problem is that Prior has competition for his place and isn't able to make the position his own. The added pressure of being captain seems to affect players performances on the pitch and any dip in form would mean we'd be looking for another captain. That said, he's got to be a better choice than Cooke at the moment ...

Rubbish.
Anderson just won man of the series and his bowling was generally excellent.
Promoting Buttler just for the sake of it is madness. Prior showed his form and fitness in this series and in a team full of new faces, his experience is needed.
Cook is out of form, he will find form by playing games. I'm not sure he needs the extra burden of the captaincy however

I would go with Stokes for Woakes in the next squad, last place in the team between Jordan and Stokes

Bolded point is a farce. He was nothing like England's best player this series and at times looked a shadow of his former self.

Buttler has been excellent and now deserves his chance. Prior had a good knock in the first innings of the first test but thats all. If Buttler isnt given the opportunity soon we could be wasting a couple of years of his talent to accommodate Prior.

Cook should be allowed to go and find his form in county cricket away from the spotlight. He clearly needs to recharge his batteries after a nightmare year with the bat and nightmare 8 or 9 months as captain.
