Were favourites to go down.
Got a new team in and gelled.
Been tested with injuries.
Had the AFCON to deal with.
Bonus of beating the filth twice.
Safe with plenty to spare.
Talk of Europe with only 5-6 games remaining.

Set up was defensive, but worked. Then got the clamour for more attacking, with people thinking we'd be just as sound defensively. Leaked a few goals last couple of games as a result and now people want the manager out.

I've just burst out laughing

The bi-polar nature of some Sunderland fans. Having said that, I don't even think it was more attacking football last night.

We just couldn't cope with their very well organised high press and players made a load of basic errors. It's only been that bad twice this season in my opinion though (for 30 mins against Brentford being the other). Still a great season overall.

More attacking line up recently. Diarra, Le Fee, Rigg all in the midfield.... none offer anything much defensively so we are more exposed.

Should be best back four. Hume in instead of Rigg. For starters. Rigg doesn't offer anything defensively and that takes plenty away from Mukieles game too.

And accept its Le Fee or Diarra. Not both. And sacrificing a player to enable it.
We’ve been incredible this season

I think you can hold this general view but still be upset by last night's performance. Overall im very happy but the performance last night was unacceptable. Forests players had room set up a food truck in our box last night. Over and over again. Dereliction of duty in any context isnt acceptable. Hopefully they can see this and they learn from last night

I thought we started well last night, then gave the ball away a few tiimes playing out from the back which gave them huge confidence to 'get at' us. I am like you though, been a great season overall,i find it easy to forgive the lads.

quite a few saying they wanted him out last night. which is nonsense. i dont think he should be automatically safe, if the club feel they can attract someone better then so be it, but certainly not 'sack him'

It’s still been a brilliant season and we have exceeded all expectations but let’s not pretend last night was a total embarrassment and a joke. The players didn’t try a leg. Xhaka was the main culprit couldn’t be arsed to run and track back it was a shameful performance

I think a big part of that has been injuries to 3 wingers though - Traore, Angulo and Ta Bi.

For the most part they have done OK filling in on the wings. But both made mistakes even at villa for goals (Rigg and Le Fee). They aren't solid enough defensively and leave the full backs more exposed.

I'm pretty much here too.

It wasn't a good game overall, but some of their goals were incredibly lucky.

The warning signs were there giving away so many cheap corners due to their high press and errors.

It should have been corrected by a change in tactics. He should have bypassed the midfield and went more direct even just for 5 to 10 mins to give them something else to think about and avoid us been pinned in our own half for most of the first half.

In the myriad of dummy spitting, toys out of the pram, stamping of feet witnessed on here it’s nice to see the grown ups join the chat

Shite last night but some perspective wouldn’t go amiss

Great post
