Newcastle ufc (May 2019)

FFP in the first season of new owners doesn't exist to the extent it does for established chairman/clubs. New owners get a grace period where they can over spend.
Also Newcastle don't anywhere near receive their potential revenue due to Sports Direct taking the lions share, so we would greatly increase that. Last seasons Premier league income was announced a short while ago, despite finishing lower, we were in the top 10. Being live on sky 19 times only beaten by 5 clubs (or maybe 6 can't remember er) and our facilities income was top 6 or 7, around there. We make a profit, and still spend, well actually not that much.

But with investment our revenues could grow quite a bit, not to the extent man u, Liverpool or spurs. But we are currently the 5th biggest earners in the premier league. FFP may well stop Messi signings but we should be able to compete with 6 - 13.

But do you own the stadium or does Ashley still own as a separate entity?
The £350m might only be for the club but not the ground as well ....like has been said before time and time again there are a lot of it's and but's

From memory the city takeover went through almost overnight. If this lot are willing to chuck cash about like the mags expect it would have been done by now.

Fulham spent over £100m last year I think so that shows it’s by no means a guarantee of success.

Fulham were starting from a very low base to attempt to secure their PL status.

A risk that failed.

Newcastle are a stable lower half team.

£200m in a window would likely steer us towards the top half and challenging the likes of Everton , Hammers , Leicester.

To get into the top 4 or even 6 - from where we are now would take 2 or 3 seasons minimum of such investment.

That in itself is a gamble as participation in the Champions League wouldn't necessarily ensure all that was recouped or guarantee a stable financial future. Ask Leeds.

To get CL you need someone with silly money to burn..

I'll settle for top 8 and a complete overhaul of our scouting, training and junior teams operations .

Bring it on

You support base wouldn’t settle for that, The toys would be out the pram, bedsheets out etc

Massive set of toddlers

They’re a stable lower table team that had to spend £57 million and make what was at the time the biggest financial loss in Championship history to get promoted.

To be fair that loss was inflated massively by one off provisions & writing off of contracts

To be fair, £300 million isn’t the £2 billion that Liverpool were seeking. But if they were actually that cash rich, they’re already allegedly 6 or 7 weeks in to the process and they’re no nearer forward to taking over. Alarm bells are ringing.

Absolutely, my spider senses are twitching too.

Maybe so but they still spent £57 million on transfers to beat Brighton by a point.

Not having a go here because you are correct, I just want to pose a question.

You also blasted the budget out the window for your season albeit not on 57mil scale but still probs the biggest budget in league 1.
My question is.

was spending £57mil worth it?

I know my answer of course, which is yes, it was more than worth it to get out of the Championship.

If it all goes through, then this summer for you lot will be extremely exciting. That said, you will only get one free hit at spending £200m before FFP catches you.

Ulimately, after that, you will need to increase your revenue hugely or face restrictions in future windows. Even Arsenal, a club considerably bigger than Newcastle, have only £50m to spend this summer due to previous spending/missing out on the CL.

Sponsorship (including stadium naming rights) will need to be considered/improved; but the easiest way for your new owners to increase revenue would be to target your fan base. An increase of perhaps 20% on corporate hospitality and then £200-400 increases on season tickets may generate an extra 20m per season.

Nufc I believe is split into two separate companies, where the stadium is placed within this, I don't know.

Nah, they didn’t. £25 million is buttons for a billionaire 18 times over. Has there been an official statement from the club acknowledging that they’ve proven they have the funds yet?

No comment from the club yet. Read that due to Ashley possibly being on the end of such a big cash injection it more than likely will affect the price of Sports Direct shares so they can’t comment for fear of reprisals.

I suspect Ashely has spoken to Liverpool and now won’t say anything until he is certain they are genuine.

Nothing to do with the fact it is deflecting attention from the contract talks with the manager?

We didn't exactly throw cash around we spent 1.5 million on 12 players in the summer. The owners tried to get promoted on the cheap then panic bought grigg on the last day in January at 3 million to try and fill the void left by maja. I think and hope this summer the owners will learn from their mistakes and blast the budget as you say.

Ahh, ok thought you might have used your muscles and outspent everyone, being the big fish you could have used that to attract the big fish in league 1's pond.
Going via the cheap route is good, but it's not my money essentially so I didn't mind we spent 50 odd million on a promotion chasing side, even if that meant getting rid when we got up. As it happens a huge core of them have more than proved their worth in retaining our premier league status, so not a total waist I guess..

Either way, I would hope they have learned their lessons and flex your muscles next year.

Theres a reason why they had to do it on the cheap though. The club was in an absolute financial mess. This has been mostly sorted now so we should be able to go in bigger this season.
