This is why I wouldn't play cattermole as our third midfielder, even though most on here would. We would end up sitting back, as with no support to Defoe we will be giving the ball away and putting ourselves on the back foot.

To pass good laws MPs need information, in order to gather said information they set up committees that call relevant people to give evidence before them. It's not much different to a judge ordering someone to appear before him/her, except slightly more serious.

Anyway, the law seems totally incapable of holding him and his company to account for the consequences of their actions. For example:

Agreed. M'Vila could do with hitting his best form again but if he gets near to it then him and Kirchhoff are solid enough, I'm setup thinking I'd maybe go for Rodwell, he's missed a few recently but at least he gets in positions in an attacking sense, one has to go in eventually. He's also decent to have for set pieces. Those three in the middle, Borini, Khazri and Defoe up front and I'll be quite confident. Could go either way but I think we've got a better chance if we give them something to think about

Not especially. Benetiz is a proven manager, but proven at the top end of the table, managing quality players who need little or no motivating. He is seen as an excellent tactician but a bit of a cold fish by his players. A lot of them tend to perform for him almost to prove him wrong than out of any specific loyalty/love for him. At Newcastle he will find a set of players many levels below what he is used to, who are in need of organisation and motivation. Benitez is skilled at organising his team. but that won't necessarily happen overnight and at the end of the day, he can set them up how he wants, he still has a back 4 of Taylor, Coco, Dummet and Janmat. I believe the phrase "you cannot polish a turd" applies here. As we saw earlier this season with DA - there is a huge difference in managing at the top to managing at the bottom. You rarely get managers who can/have done both successfully.

FWIW, I think Newcastle should have gone for someone like Pearson or Sherwood - a scrapper who will get players playing above their levels through motivation and the development of a siege mentality.

That said, if they stay up and he stays long term then I think he will definitely improve them. It's a very big IF though

Aye that's what I would do. No one is kidding themselves into thinking rodwell has been a good signing, but with what we have, I'd still say he's the best option. Like you say, at least he gets in the box and tries to carry the ball forward.
