Interestingly, I have heard that this may be so from another source quite a while ago. Not a serious problem I was told by the lad in question, but it will get worse according to him if it turns out to be true. No idea where he got such info from as he is completely disinterested in football and , but he will know what he is talking about, so I'll ask him more when I next see him, as in all honestly it all went by me at the time.

That said, as far as I am concerned a football ground is for watching football matches in not looking at. Most of them look a bit tatty after a few years. It's the lack of bricks I tell ya!
Once the rebar reinforcement frame works starts to exfoliate internally, usually due to moisture ingress into the concrete, it basically explodes over time.....I noticed this occurring over ten years ago

One of the bouncers I worked with in Nottingham, Richard, was a great lad who had a day job in construction.

He was the 'concrete engineer' involved in the construction of bridges across motorways.

He readily admitted he was totally unqualified and guessed at the mixtures

This was in the 90's so I'm fully expecting to turn on 'East Midlands Today', one day, to find a bridge has collapsed.

What they need is a new owner. What they need is some cowboy-man like whats down round in Dallas.

Loved the blunders, backed every manager........just made some poor choices...........

And wiped the Fookin debt on his way oot, not many mercenaries would've done that.....

The great unwashed aren't happy nowadays about the accommodation for the 88 000 unwashed scratters

the Whole ground is absolutely disgusting and in a terrible state of neglect, as someone has said it looks like a 1970s abandoned warehouse in places and is starting to resemble Elland Rd. What an utter s*** hole the fat penny pinching c*** is turning it into, modern stadiums should be vibrant clean, inviting and appealing, Ive done the tour of Cowboys stadium in Dallas a few times and in the entrance way Jerry Jones has got marbled floor with this mineral that can only be found in one area of the states glistening in the floor ( this mineral gives out the same kind of blue as Cowboys blue) this cost him 3 million dollars to install. You see stadiums like that ran and operated by people with pride and who care about the product they own then you see ours which is morphing into a sports direct warehouse

Anyone got any novichok for Ashley

Wonder if that Geordie Dean is our very own Geordie Dick?

@geordiedean

Not heard from this absolute doyle for a while (not that his snide has been missed).

I'm not getting into a debate about it because it's the mags ground and I really don't give a shit but you can't tell me my opinion is wrong

I was in one of the sports bars for the Falcons vs Saints Rugby match last season and thought it looked very tired in there mind.

The fact that the outside of it could do with a bit of a scrub is indisputable as well. Seen a number of mags on here say the same thing.

These issues about the state of the ground have been ongoing for a while now, before the new owners were at Sunderland. The back of the gallowgate is rotten, loads of feather and pigeon shite in the corners of the roof

I’m not familiar with the names of the parts of St James’ but what’s that bit of it with loads of algae on the outside?

Tempted to go and fetch a pressure washer ever time I see it. Some MMF should do it themselves imo.

Former concrete testing technician. Measure and he depth of the reinforcement from The face work of units, the concrete mixture and testing of loads pressures, all scientific stuff. There was a block of flats that collapsed due to concrete corrosion at the time points down south bank k in the seventies........I never pass under John Dobson Street

Was a recent Q&A in the chronicle where the bloke in charge of ground maintenance was basically saying they aren't given the budget or resources to keep on top of everything and despite how dilapidated it looks its a constant job going from one job to the next. Things like cleaning the top of the concourse windows on the gallowgate or in the leazes end are huge jobs and requires cranes and abseilers, and would eat the budget so they simply don't get done.
The algae was mentioned and said its because its an area that gets no sun but would be addressed.

I get their point and agree about how these modern stadiums should be better than they are.

At our ground under the West stand it's a nice vibe & is well kitted out but then you go round to the East stand & its grey and soulless. Haven't even got a ceiling just open to the top of the stand. Looks manky as fuck. I know it ultimately doesn't matter but just looks shite.

A false ceiling from the NEC right round to the south stand, some better quality lighting and a rubberised floor (the dimple sort of you know what I mean) would make a helluva difference. Feels like you’re a stood in a dingy aircraft hangar presently.

Brave man, going against the party line that is:- everything and everyone North of the Tyne is either decrepit, stupid, dirty or all 3 intermingled. Respect.

What a sad little thread this really is.

And do you know what ? - if you were to go on toon forum no-one at all is slagging of SoL.

Nobody gives a shit....

Most definitely. It's like the slums compared to the West Stand

At the risk of being branded a Mag or worse, I was actually there last Tuesday with work and had a tour round ground, changing rooms, dug outs etc and I was thinking what a great stadium it looked.

TIN HAT ON
I've been there for corporate events and with work, the changing room areas are cheap and tatty and the corporate chintzy cheap glitter crap imho

Oh.

Touched a raw nerve ?

SJP may not be the best - but it is a PL stadium.

Sol?

The name itself was f***ing second hand - stolen from a Portuguese club...
