I’d love to know how it was a defensive masterclass. When NUFC beat Chelsea 3-0 in May, Chelsea had 58% possession yet only managed 6 shots. Chelsea had 81% possession yesterday and managed 15 attempts at goal. That roughly speaking is a shot every 5 minutes of possession. It was dull anti football camped in your own half and hardly ever touching the ball. However the be all and end all is, it failed and they got fuck all. Were it to be a masterful defensive performance they would have undeservedly gained a point.

A defensive masterclass was us in the Ji game against City. Better not to tell them that mind.

Although they wouldn't dare admit it, it wouldn't be such a bad thing if/when Benitez leaves. There are countless managers who could do a similar if not better job with the same resources.

Chris Hughton for one ;)

I’ve had this argument on Twitter this morning with them. They basically said Rafa isn’t to blame for them spending money, isn’t to blame for them spending stupid amounts in the Championship, isn’t to blame for their signings this window and isn’t to blame for their league position.

When I asked them what he actually WAS responsible for given how much he was being paid they said I was being obtuse

Was sacked unreasonably by the current administration for not toeing the party line.

Benitez is onto a winner here and he knows it only too well. If he'd actually achieved something of note with them I could understand the love in to an extent. The fact is in their eyes he can do no wrong. He's totally playing them but I think the press will start to have a bit more of a pop at him in the near future. I know it's only Talksport, but last night they were saying he should apologise for yesterdays performance :D

Ryder, Douglas and the Chronicle will continue to rim him like.

The Mags have defended Benitez to such a degree they can no longer back down otherwise they'd have to admit they were wrong.

Any supporter, of any other club, would have criticised the team selection, tactics and result against Chelsea ...

... but the Mags have given away that privelege.

Anyone doing so would be shunned and asked to leave the Nation.
