They are a couple of bad managerial decisions from EXACTLY the position we found ourselves in - loads of shit, overpaid players that nobody wants. If Ashley pulls the plug - and you can bet your bottom dollar, he'd like to - what happens?

They're in the Prem now but as we show, it can take years to reap the consequences from horrific financial decisions. They have not done it the Burnley way - and I wouldn't get too complacent if I were them.

It's a miracle we can now move forward. Whatever else you say about Short, very few owners would take the consequences for his own decisions as personally as him. He has taken a massive hit - would Ashley, or anyone else, do the same?

We are a million miles away from your situation. Crucially, none of our debt is owed externally - no interest is being paid on the debt and any subsequent relegation would be absorbed in the form of additional interest-free loans. Why would Ashley pull the plug when the consequence to him would be relegation and massive financial losses from his side? None of that post makes sense.

I'm just saying the numbers don't add up. Seems odd to go down a division but increase the wage bill by 50%......certainly doesn't seem the work of an astute financial genius like Ashley.

P.s. If you are going to label someone as 'thick as fuck', you really need to know the difference between your and you're.

But seriously: by pull the plug, I mean convince anyone with shit for brains to buy you - which he most certainly would love to do. Once you grasp that what I mean by that phrase, surely you can see that your second sentence answers your third.

What he has done here, according to these figures, is highly unusual. It's certainly not the most sustainable way to run a club. You are basically saying that he is absorbing all the debt - the debt is still owed to him, interest-free or otherwise. It's still debt, it's still there and it's still huge. It's not a timebomb like ours was, but it is entirely dependent on Ashley's patience. What's to say, if you went down, he wouldn't go for Short's strategy? Ok, Short's strategy was extreme - but surely he couldn't afford to go for the same one he went for last time? Most people follow a strategy closer to Short than Ashley - they just aren't as absolutely shit on the pitch as us. And if you get a new owner, then what? Most owners will not be as generous as Ashley - it's amazing the stick he gets.

The bottom line, for me, is that your squad is absolutely garbage. Ashley's plan is quite clear that, to recoup the debt owed to him, he is not going to invest substantially - and why should he: you've had a great season! Surely that proves he can get away with not investing? Well, that may be his logic - but your squad isn't fooling me: it's garbage, and your current manager has worked wonders frankly (though he must take some blame for assembling a very low-rent squad imo - signed a lot of players in the Championship that, financially speaking, were short-term buys). If Rafa does leave, I'm not sure if anyone else could get that squad to outperform in the way I think it has done this year. He's right he needs money from a football persepctive - but the state of the club's finances prevent that.

You need to survive in the Premiership on a shoe-string for a fair few years to start reducing that debt. That's what Ashley will want and what needs to happen. All the Chinese money in the world wouldn't get you near the top six, that's a sad reflection on where football is these days. He'd just be throwing money at a situation that would not increase your value: it makes no financial sense for him. It won't happen - which is why you're not an attractive prospect for new owners either tbh. Why buy Newcastle with £130m debt, when you could buy Watford, based in London, way less debt, way cheaper price?

So, I'm afraid you are in a position quite similar to us about three or four season ago, albeit with a much better manager and a better owner, for now. Your strategy will be the same as ours: shoe-string survival, to pay back debt. And if one or the other of your owner or manager leaves - or even both - I think things could quickly deteriorate. Bottom-line: your players are shit and overpaid, and there is a massive geographical disadvantage with no money in corporate hospitality up here,

You're mad for wanting rid of Ashley in my eyes.

He has never at any point tried to pay back the debt to himself......even when we made profit 5 seasons on the trot, and when we had £40M sitting in the current account in the bank for a season.

He owns the club man. If he pays down the club's debt, he is making his asset more saleable, by reducing his asset's debt. I'm not suggesting he is literally stuffing the cash down his trouser pocket.
 
Ashley has managed the mags very well, he doesn’t give in to their hysteria. I would say we would not have been relegated if he had managed safc finances in those years.
 
All very well he's invested heavily in his club, but does he own a small unprofitable hotel on bogland next to the ground... I don't think so!
