Look this whole debate came about because you (might of been somone else) reckoned you couldn't buy a 10-15 goal striker for £17m, I gave examples of them, you then came back with "what are their values now".

It dosn't matter what their value is now all that matters is what their club paid for them.

As for saying "they'd just go and find a £500k striker that's just as good" I think you'll find I never said it was that easy i'm pointing out that there's plenty bargins to be had (which as been the case since football was invented) and that a world class manager (has we keep being told) with all his connections in the game should be able to spot a bargin along the way.

FWIW I think Benitez is a very good manager but he's not this mystical figure in which Newcastle fans portray him.

As for Coleman and Grayson they couldn't keep Sunderland up because the pair of them were f***ing useless.

So, really, your central issue is that you don't think Benitez is as good as you think Newcastle believe him to be? I'm not surprised. If you believe RTG every single Newcastle fan thinks Benitez is devoid of any faults and should never be questioned. So of course you're going to think he's over-rated. Trouble is, RTG's cartoon creation of what Newcastle fans are, and think, isn't actually real.

Set aside your partisan blinders for a moment and it's clear that Benitez had to balance recruitment across a Championship squad to make the whole good enough to survive in the Premier League. And he had to leave contract negotiations in the hands of men who totally buy into Ashley's niggardly approach. Benitez wanted Tammy Abraham and/or Nicolai Jorgensen, but Charnley couldn't get the deals done. Maybe it's better for the club long term that those deals didn't happen, maybe those players were making ridiculous demands, who knows? But end of the day Newcastle United has been crying out for a top flight striker this season, and the reason we don't have one is because the moneymen didn't get it done.

But but but he sold siserko and winalbum for xxx so hasnt spent anything realy.

They love spinning that out mind.

Ashley clearly stated he wasn't going to heavily back Benitez and told the supporters not to expect him to ....

... they still do

:lol: Chewing the fat about the Toon on a Sunderland forum, thick as a whale omelette.

But you're missing the central issue

I just skim their posts ffs.
Imagine coming on a Sunderland forum to read and chat about Sunderland and all you see is shit about Skunks.

It's like paying to go in the cinema to watch a decent film, sitting down and the projectionist decides to put some other crap on your not interested in. :(

I like a bit of speed reading. Just scan the relevant points, and that was the only one.

He's so deluded and biased he just can't accept anything that deviates from his worn out script ....

.. yet inevitably says people can't see the point because they're biased, unreal

Well, of course it matters how much they're valued at now, I asked for 10-15 goal a season striker that Newcastle could have signed, those players you named are either valued much higher or wouldn't be sold to Newcastle.
Those are strikers that were bought at a bargain price and successful bargains are rare, as you've found out. As I said, there are bargains to be found, but the less you pay, the bigger the gamble that a player will be good enough for the Premier League. And there are far more flops than bargains, aren't there.

If was as easy as you make out, world class managers wouldn't be signing Gabriel Jesus for £27m, they'd just go find a gem for £500k that's just as good. Why couldn't Grayson or Coleman sign players good enough to keep a club like Sunderland in the Championship?

Are you suggesting any manager who wants to spend money is a chequebook manager? Because that's literally every manager.

I thought that was the norm on here?

To be fair, you could have picked up the likes of Austin, Wood, Barnes or Mounie for around £10million who all would have been significant upgrades on what you have.
