If you mention Hodgson you have to also mention Swansea's Carvalhal. They were bottom on 13pts from 20 games when he took over just before the January window. Now they're 15th on 32pts under Carvalhal, picking up 19 points from just 12 games. (1.6PpG)Can't argue with that, he'll doubtless be overlooked for any accolades and I guess rightly so, as you mentioned both Pep and Dyche have done more worthy things in my opinion...you could possibly add Hughton to that list and if Hodgson keeps Palace up he's done well considering the position they were in before his appointment.
There's jumble in your thinking. You're saying if one of the top European clubs wanted him, or Everton, or Leicester (?), he'd go, but if he's as average as you make out, why would anyone else want him? If one of the most trophied managers around (who's won things in various countries at various levels with various budgets and various calibre of players) is so mediocre, why would any club be after him at all?
He didn't join a Championship club, he joined a Premier League club and couldn't keep them up. He managed us in the 2nd tier because he was confident he could bring us back up at the first time of asking. He's stayed at a club where the owner is a prick because he sees that despite that, he can achieve his aims.
We're not kidding ourselves, if a bigger/better club comes in for him, he could go. But given he wants to stay in England, and he wouldn't manage Man Utd, Everton, and wouldn't go back to Chelsea. Also Man City, Liverpool and Spurs aren't looking to change their managers any time soon. Who does that leave? Arsenal, but would they want Benitez? his stock took a hit after Inter and Real Madrid. But it's a remote possibility. So who else? Why would he swap his ongoing, rewarding project at Newcastle for upheaval and uncertainty for some other midtable Premier League club? Especially as the rumours of a takeover won't go away.
Is it any shock that he's not rated by the fans of clubs who're rivals of clubs he's warmly regarded by? Everton and Sunderland fans insisting Benitez isn't as good as he's made out, because he's done well/is doing well at their rivals... I'm shocked.
So Big Sam's not good enough because;
1.You spend big money
2.You won triophies donkey's years ago
3. You'll get big crowds if you get a new stadium.
Exactly the same reasons the mags didn't like him.
Didn't realise how similar Everton and Newcastle are.

Hodgson took over after only 4 games and has picked up 31pts from 29 games (1.1)PpG, but they're still in danger of the drop. He's got a much better squad than Carvalhal imo.
In recent seasons he's taken a basket case of a club to win the 2nd tier and now stabilised them in the top flight. I don't think that's tailing off, I'd say that was a good performance, it's only tailing off if you don't look at it with any real scrutiny. He's got a good CV but he's tailed off in recent seasons imo hence why no one has looked at him and thought 'easy pickings' when you were languishing in the Championship.
Mourinho and Wenger have both complained about not being able to compete. The budget isn't the be all and end all of job satisfaction. He's happy because we're pulling in the right direction and, as I've said, the rumours of a takeover are persisting. No top manager in demand would be at a club constantly moaning about a lack of resources - they would either a. Be snapped up anyway/have his agent putting out interest or b. Get fed up of the owner not meeting his ambition and walk.
You've no idea if there has been any concrete interest from other clubs. Neither do I. The only people who would know are Rafa Benitez and the interested parties. And there is a whole host of reasons why he's staying at Newcastle, reasons that could be strong enough to make other clubs' interest irrelevant, or not good enough. I've heard nothing about clubs having concrete interest in Guardiola, he must be shite then...The fact neither have happened suggests to me he's got no concrete interest from other clubs in which you have to ask the question why?considering as you say the bloke has won a fair few trophies in his time.
I whole heartedly agree, but I don't see proof that Benitez' ability is on the wane. Newcastle can't compete for honours at the moment, but to do what he's done with what he's got is evidence that he remains a very good coach.Football changes and success doesnt automatically follow- Hiddink and the like spring to mind of previously highly rated coaches who seemed to fall away.

Dunno how he sees it because he says he's got all the mags on ignore.
Absolute codswallop, in what way are Newcastle a basket case of a club.In recent seasons he's taken a basket case of a club to win the 2nd tier and now stabilised them in the top flight. Basket case clubs don't give their managers nigh on £100m to spend. It's all in your deluded tiny minds, Ashley has Newcastle ticking over nicely (yes you've been relegated but other than about 6 clubs that could happen to any one).
Basket case club.![]()
Fucka stays on my ignore list. Don't wanna know fuck all about himClicks <show ignored content> on every one no doubt. It's actually more work having us on ignore if he's doing that![]()
Dozens of clubs have poor PR, employ the wrong managers, employ arsehole players and other staff, sack managers wrongly, have been relegated.Newcastle's owner is a proven liar, is a walking PR nightmare, has employed an incompetent chairman, and a litany of poor managerial choices. We've been relegated twice, offered a charlatan an 8yr deal. sacked a perfectly competent manage who had the gaul to foster some team spirit... Only yesterday the club was fined because it didn't follow the straightforward guidelines about gambling companies and youth kits.
Ahhh, are you doing this thing where because A is worse, then B can't be considered bad? Are we as bad as Blackpool? Nope. But we're always one week away from some ridiculous incident or other, as you lot delight in on here.
Funny though isn't it, two posters have now isolated some small part of the conversation to pick at, rather than have an actual adult conversation. Y'know, because FTM and all that.![]()

Are they all basket cases as well?

Well every single team who gets relegated this season (that's 12 just in the top 4 league's) could argue all of the above. In the last 10 years or so what Ashley's been there it will be dozens.Name 24 then with examples that fit in with the criteria you have mentioned above.
You don't know how f***ing good you have it.
Imagine having the delusion to post on an SAFC forum that your owner is a liar and appointed an incompetent chairman.
The lack of self awareness on your behalf is astonishing.
Relegation isn't necessarily a metric of an owners competence.Well every single team who gets relegated this season (that's 12 just in the top 4 league's) could argue all of the above. In the last 10 years or so what Ashley's been there it will be dozens.

Apart from when it's Newcastle though. You're kidding right? Just because Ashley is a clown that doesn't mean Short isn't, or even that he's not more of a clown. I wouldn't trade Ashley for Short, but I'd trade him for a whole host of other owners.
Are you one of these people who, when a workmate complains about being busy, loses their mind because you're busy yourself?
Everybody's battles are their own.
Relegation isn't necessarily a metric of an owners competence.
Not every club relegated is/was due to an incompetent owner. Burton will likely go down, but not because their owner is shocking. West Brom's owners aren't incompetent, they just made a bad managerial decision and by the time they pulled the trigger, it was too late. If Southampton or Swansea or Huddersfield go down, you wouldn't say the club was a basket case. However if West Ham stay up, that doesn't mean their owners aren't clowns either.
You're getting relegated because your owner wasted millions on bad managerial choices, who spent millions on bad players. He's a bad owner and nobody is denying that. Short's incompetence isn't affected by Ashley's incompetence.
Like Ashley's been very good to you.Shorts been very very good to you. He’s been idolised on here for years and years. He give you every manager you wanted and allowed them to continually spend big. That’s not to mention establishing you as a premier league team and taking you to Wembley.
He’s made errors but who hasn’t ? You’ll miss him when he’s gone I reckon.
