Benitez arrived at Newcastle 1 point from safety, a game in hand over every club and all of the bottom 6 to play except themselves ... he's in a worse position this time and with an inferior team.

They're in the shit, no mistake.
Yes but he’s a world class manager and no way they should change him

That Allardyce is just a long ball merchant and no way should they consider him.

There is a level of acceptance which I remember well and is reminiscent of our former plight.
What I noticed tonight in my local Gosforth boozer was a level of frustration and anger I hadn't sensed before.
I belive this defeat has broken them

If they lose to Southampton, then I can see a lot of trouble at Watford game as they seem ready to explode.

I’ve posted this before, but a lot of mags fully expected us to go bust this season. I personally know a couple who honestly didn’t believe we would play a league game against each other for 10-15 years. If, by Xmas, there is a strong chance we will be playing each other next season, it will kill them.

People on here say they'll be fine every time they're relegated

I'm one of them mind!

But really, they shouldn't be in this amount of bother. Four of their games have been "winnable", and last season they picked a fair few points up from the big teams. They also had enough quality in the team to stay up last time they dropped down.

So I wonder....can their be a connection!?

They'll be fine, they’ll be fine, they’ll be fine (fingers firmly crossed behind back)

I think that's what I mean when I say similar actually!

The behind the scenes problems within that club will see them down.
No team ever got out of the shit they're in without spirit and unity.
Even the most ardent mag would admit there isn't any.

Good point that mind AT. It's a bloody tough league, and any hint of instability festers like a septic wound. You can't afford it, and they really ,really have to win next week or against Watford.

As far as I am concerned my thoughts are that the vast majority of them are in denial and can’t/won’t accept they are in the doo doo. The longer it goes on the better from our point of view. The total difference between us and them is that we know and accept our limitations and have always been realistic.

I think they accept they are in the shit, but they simply won’t accept that their manager needs to take a huge chunk of the blame.

They have backed themselves into a ridiculous corner and even if Rafa loses the next five games, they still won’t blame him. It’s quite funny actually

Aye. That's more or less how I see it. Though some of my mates of my age would be excluded from this. They are old enough to have had John MacNamee be their favourite player and Iam McFaul manage them to another relegation. With those lads, I have no beef at all, they have seen as much shite as I have. And they have never seen their team win the Cup!

But there are so many of the "new" input who are as you describe. The Sky -Keegan generation who got their first taste of football watching a bright attacking team spending shedloads of money on the best players available and nearly winning things. Nearly winning later on as well. But now, though of course they may win , it will be a shock. A provincial club beating the big boys. That, for many of them, seems a truth pill which they cannot swallow.
