The thing about the Mags and 'Mag Culture' is that they have to be perceived as the biggest and best.

Look at this article from the Ronnie: Peter Kenyon linked with Newcastle United takeover

Bearing in mind, this takeover attempt is unconfirmed and the person leading it has no money. They've identified that Kenyon has no money and wants to find people to help him fund this. So, to make themselves seem relevant 'in demand' they write:

What does the average work experience kid running the Chronicle website at the weekend know about prominent people on Wall Street? Manhattan is full of money, what makes this fella so prominent? What relevance does it even have?

It's an attitude on Tyneside that they have to be the biggest.

I'd love to see what they wrote about the great white knight, UK based Billionaire 'Mike Ashley' 10 years ago....

They have been in a ten year huff because they have a billionaire (like City) who won't spend his money (unlike City).

Almost as if it has no basis of truth at all...

Fan unrest. 19th Sept 2009 - Barry Moat “plotting takeover bid”.
Fan unrest. 1st October 2017 - Amanda Staveley in crowd “plotting takeover bid”.
Fan unrest. 29th September 2018 - Peter Kenyon “plotting takeover bid”.

Like absolute clockwork.

Decent time to make a business purchase in fariness like, biggest deals always close in Q4.

You forgot 2008 after Keegan left, club up for sale.
Gan on AshleyOut.com and they've got all the stories and contradictions from Lambias and Jimenez in chronological order.
He doesn't want to sell as its costing him nothing but beneficial to his other businesses.
Funny how after not attending a game since August last year he's been to two games in succession once there's a bit of negativity around him. Bit like the 2015 protests when it was ramping up on him along with the ch4 Dispatches about the conditions in the SD warehouse and he goes before the sky cameras unprompted to speak publicly for the first time in his ownership.
Although I'd definitely be happy with new ownership, I'm doubtful it's even true. Why would a story even come out that somebody is putting together a consortium? They're miles away from it. Might not even be able to raise funds to make a bid

I’d agree with this and I’m a sunderland season ticket holder.

Anyone disagreeing NUFC aren’t a globally recognised club are pretty embarrassing tbf. It’s schoolyard stuff.

Deloitte Football Money League - Wikipedia

Looking where the club was pre-Ashley, on the 06,07 and 08 ones compared to where it is now would suggest major incompetence. Dropped further and further every year. Been surpassed by other teams we were well ahead of like Spurs, Everton, West Ham.

Got half way through and couldn't watch anymore. Thoroughly nauseating stuff. Their fans' fawning over Benitez, their high opinion of themselves and sense of entitlement, the media playing up the "entertainers" & "Geordie Nation".
Their club and nashun myth is built on sand. If it wasnt for Ashley bailing out their club in 2007 they would have probably went into administration due to Hall and Shepherds excessive borrowing to fuel their myth in the previous decade.

The Magedia have a lot to answer for too by feeding their delusion.

The Ashley valuation of £350m is undervalued as well - I don't see how the don't realise this.

The true value Big Mike is looking for is £210m if you deduct the personal debt owed to him.

That's a bargain IMO - and I'm not even joking.

Ashley didn't bale the club out until 09/10 season.
Club had £75m debt when he arrived owed to the banks, they now owe him double that.
The reason it massively increased is following the relegation in 09(where Keegan was pushed out and then Kinnear appointed, then Hughton and then Shearer), Barclays were worried they'd not get their loan back once in the championship, so as collateral they took ownership of the ground and training ground then issued the club a mortgage one them. Ashley paid off the mortgages and the debt, and put it in his name.
There was no bale out took place, the debt was just transferred and increased, we are worse off financially now than before he arrived. If he really wanted to bale out the club he could convert the loans to capital, like what Short done several times at Sunderland.
Instead this £140m debt is a millstone round the clubs neck as any potential buyer is going to have to repay that to the owner.
It's like me selling a car then wanting money back for any MOTs or general maintenance that I've had done in the past

You were living beyond your means and we’re in mountains of debt, it was unsustainable and you were in a false position. You had a resurgence in the 90s and a few good seasons in the noughties. Other than that the championship and around where you are now is generally where you should be for a club of your size and history.

Yes that 10 year spell from 1994 finishing 3rd up to 2004 when Robson left is a spike and not the norm, I agree. But once you are in that position or not far off it, then you can do your best to sustain it.
Just because man city or Chelsea haven't always been as successful as they were since their new owners arrived wouldn't make it acceptable to their fans if they regressed to their usual midtable positions

As an example we can see here in this post that the influence of the media in the NE has a lot to answer for.

If you spout enough rubbish the stupid and gullible will believe it,
