New Zealand v England 3rd test Hamilton

I didn’t mind it originally just to give a little bit of experience in an otherwise inexperienced bowling line up. It would just give us that little bit of a safety net almost whilst Atkinson, Carse, Potts, Hull etc all gain a bit of experience. It wouldn’t be too much of a shock if Woakes has now played his last test. Even though our next series is a home one we start the summer with an ‘easy’ one off where you’d think Atkinson and A N Other would be in a good enough place to lead the attack and carry it on to India. If they did feel they needed to fall back on Woakes for that series then the option would be there, but I doubt they’d aim for him to play.

Is Woakes injured?

I'm surprised they've left him out if not but obviously I'm pleased Potts is playing.
Don't think Woakes has it in him to go 3 tests back to back anymore (Ashes last year had a break between 1 of the tests and it rained for 2 days)
No test cricket for England until end of May after this one :(
Whyd you have to remind us

If Woakes is going to Oz, then he will play 2 or 3 of the summer tests.
I've always felt he's a rhythm bowler who needs games and just worry that if he does go to Oz, it'll be for 1 maybe 2 tests at most and I hope he doesn't go in cold.

Speaking of which, have we got a preferred bowling line up you want for India and the Ashes.

Atkinson (nailed on for me)
Carse (nailed on for me)
Wood (when at his best)/Archer (Fit and Fresh) - Rotate these
Stokes (please stay bowling fit)
Bashir (Ahmed needs a really strong season with bat and ball, because you never know what opportunity could pop up in Australia)

Potts (plays of Stokes isn't 4th seamer ready) /Woakes as cover
Fully fit Tongue and Stone as cover for Wood/Archer

Robinson - still think he should be in this team when fully fit

The fast bowling looks far better with the emergence of Atkinson and Carse, think they’ll both do very well in Australia. Really worried about going to Australia with Bashir as our spinner though.

Woakes should be nowhere near an Ashes touring party mind.

I think it’s highly unlikely Woakes goes to Oz. I genuinely think he is just playing to bridge the gap until the ashes. He could possibly end up in the squad like because of injuries. But if everyone is fit he gets nowhere near the squad for Oz.

Big game this for Pope and Crawley, I think their place is at risk if he fails in this game, I imagine they’ll want Jaime Smith back in
