How big is it compared to the others? Haven't given themselves long to build it like.

It does go from the old scoreboard to the green seats, they are fencing it off as they put the founds in.
The contractors on site are confident the prefabbed sections will start to be erected on the 18th June as planned and it will be finished and signed off in time for the ashes.
The seats are second hand from the Olympic stadium to save money, but are blue, it'll be interesting to see how that compares to the white seats already in place.

And I take it the rumours that the ground is in financial difficulty are rubbish? They wouldn't be building a new stand if that was the case surely.

I think the capacity once the stand is built will be 17,500.
It's not rumours about the club struggling financially, it's fact, they've had to borrow money to complete the stand and safeguard the upcoming Ashes match.
There's still tickets left for the Ashes match, which begs the question that if they can't sell an Ashes test out, how can they fill the new seats for any other game?

Its a shame that as its a cracking little ground. I've booked tickets for the ODI but thought the ashes would have sold out ages ago so never even thought to look.
I'm going to see what's available, maybe the price is too steep for some people mind, 80 quid a day isn't cheap.
Might be 20/20 I've booked tickets for come to think of it.

Agreed. If I hadn't got discounted tickets through work I wouldn't be going. I'm paying £55 which IMO should be around the price Durham are selling them for.

Wouldnt suprise me if they start selling cheapies on the day for the weekdays to fill up empty seats.

Paid full whack for Day 1 like, expensive but just had to be there.

The new stand IS going from the old scoreboard round to the green seats. The foundations are clearly being prepared now. I'm told that:
1. The old scoreboard will disappear and be replaced with another electronic one;
2. The seats will be one tier high to match in with the lower tier of the County Durham Stand as they do not want to put an additional tier on top as it will spoil the view of Lumley Castle, so I'm assuming it will be open seating ie no roof;
3. The seats may not be white as they have bought them from the Olympic Organising Committee - saving the cricket club an estimated £150k;
4. The stand has already been built and will be brought in in sections from the middle to back end of this month and bolted together with the seats bolted on top.
It is all expected to be up and running for The Ashes.

All of the green seats are due to go. The ones will go when the old scoreboard is replaced and the ones round by the sightscreens when The Gateway is built.

Is there any money to build this Gateway and replace the scoreboard? The original plans cost around £45m although that did include floodlights and a hotel. We've had to borrow for this current stand and I can't see an Ashes test making enough to fund it.

Players that are barely playing leaching off the wage bill mostly. I'd say we outperform most of the other Test counties when it comes to attendances for County games.

How do the clubs survive, just about every county game I have seen on Sky there has been one man and sometimes his dog.

Income comes in many forms - Members subs, sponsorship, hospitality and ECB money.
Most counties either break even or have a small profit/loss but for some reason Durham are in the clarts. We should be healthier once the big earners are off the books.
