New Durham League 3rd Team Rules Farce

Common sense has prevailed. Rules back to how Coast league ran last year. 3 adult 2nd teamers from the weekend can play. Might be an idea to consult with clubs before decisions are made eh?

Disagree - the purpose of 3rd team midweek cricket is not to give 2nd XI players another run out. If a club cannot field a proper 3rd team them they should not enter that division that year; as far as I'm aware it's not compulsory to enter a midweek 3rd team in the DCL.

If a club is not strong enough to field a proper third team it needs to look inwardly at how it can rectify that (through additional work bringing kids through, etc) rather than pointing the finger at the league for not accommodating them. What incentive is there for a club to build it's membership otherwise?

Completely wrong for all the reasons posted earlier in this thread.

I have actually. It's not rocket science if the hard work is put in over time.

Unfortunately too many clubs are not prepared to put in the hard work developing junior cricket and building a decent membership. Typically the teams who can't field a bona fide 3rd XI are among the most likely to pay average first team mercenaries.

Have ran Sunday teams for many years ( as many on here know) with on paper very good numbers of course as they say the game is played on the pitch and not on paper getting lads to turn out can be a massive ball ache. It needs good honest administration and common sense to make it work
