this is certainly a big step up for this guy..a business like scunthorpe with a turnover oof £3m and with low capital intensity..
to one with a turnover of at least five times that with a huge capital requirement for a long time to come.

Walton managed Barclays portfolio with a number of premier league clubs for a number of years, setting up massive finance deals in football; most notably the world transfer record deal that took Shearer from Blackburn to Newcastle. Having worked his way up the corporate banking ladder at Barclays over nearly 30 years and managing the portfolio as I previously mentioned, he was then appointed CEO of a premier league club that had recently been in the Premier League.

Sounds quite similar to our new fella who played for Tadcaster Harriers and then became chairman of Boston.

If things carry on the way they are, there will need to be some serious budget cutting at all levels of the game. So perhaps the right person for the job at this moment in time.
I think we might be counting our lucky stars we we still have a football club this time next season. As i can see some football league clubs not existing this time next year.

And Notts county had a winding up petition issued a year after he left. Again, impossible to say what if any role he had in it, but safe to say the finances were hardly likely to have been rosy when he left

So off the pitch its one club in financial crisis, one certainly not making progress. On the pitch its 2 clubs relegated. There's not really much to get positive about regardless of the specifics of the role. And I'm less keen if it's true he's mates with Methven because if he was totally unrelated I'd at least think something else he was doing behind the scenes had impressed, instead it sounds awfully like he was just a number Charlie had in his phone. Again, I really hope I'm wrong, and he might have done a great job elsewhere and things out of his control might have affected things. I just wish we could make an appointment which gives genuine reason for optimism

relevant questions. though id say being on the baord of the football league counts as wwider industry experiemce.

i terms of ackground? apprently he is a former pro footballer, im not making any claims around whether thats a posituve or not.
did he fail at his previous jobs? at notts county seems he didnt..chairman praised him highly for his work on financial matters at the club

With oil now selling at minus level, perhaps the Saudi's wont have that much money to throw around after all.

Where did that come from?

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest as on the face of it, it looks like a very odd appointment.

He does appear to have lots of the correct experience. He has been a player, worked at a senior level for the FA and EFL and been CEO of 2 clubs. However, what I am not seeing is any success in any of these roles and I'd take success over experience any day.

As always, with SAFC appointments I hope I am completely wrong and he is brilliant at his job. But I am not filled with confidence.

the oiks audi sells is not selling at a negative level..its wto thats negative..thats us oil..
but yes the genral notion of the lower oil price is relevant..its also why the sauduis are investing outside of their own country..

But if Methven knows him, he obviously rates him otherwise he wouldn't want him involved. I'm unsure how that's considered "amateurish".

walton was five months at newcastle. he didnt set up deals..he loaned newcastle the money..he doesnt even mention newcastle rile on his linked in..it goes straight from barclays to safc.
investment banking is not good experience for a football club ceo..maye thats why he lasted five moths at newcastle?
