New Birmingham Stadium - 60k+

Literally an events / NFL stadium with a football club attached to it.

Even if they get into the Prem, it'll half be filled with tourists and day trippers with little affinity to the club.

Birmingham is pretty much full of Liverpool and Man Utd fans with Villa thrown in.
Absolutely spot on. In fact I’d broaden that to the Midlands in general. Much more likely to see a plastic in a Liverpool or United shirt than a Coventry or Leicester shirt for example.

I don’t get it personally. My sister-in-law’s partner is from Nuneaton but supports Man Utd. I just tell him I don’t talk about football to plastics and it winds him up a treat.

So glad we aren’t owned by Americans. They’re f***ing clueless.
Owners of last season’s champions, Liverpool and this season’s champions Arsenal if they don’t blow it.
Owners of Villa, Man U and Chelsea. Whether you like Wrexham or not American ownership doesn’t take away from what they’ve done in the short time the American owners came in. That’s not bad for being clueless.
Sports is no longer the cottage industry it was when we were growing up. TV rights have turned it into big business.

Plus the Americans believe the cost of acquiring a club in the PL is much more cost effective than trying to buy a NFL team.

To buy an NFL team you’re looking at 6-7 billion. For 350 million a year tv deal.

You could get a non big six team for 400-800 million for a tv deal of 100-200m a year.

United and Chelsea are a joke mate.

The current Liverpool owners have done a good job of rebuilding the club but the previous ones Hicks and Gillett nearly put them out of business.

Short was a disaster here. Ditto Lerner at Villa.

You will get the odd exception but by and large American ownership tends to end up in tears IMO.

There’s more room for growth, profit wise, in the PL I would think.
An NFL franchise will always appreciate due to the fact there’s a limited amount of teams. They’re like beach front property in that there’s only so much coastline and you can’t create any more.

Most of the clubs are owned by Americans so American owned clubs are going to do well by default.....

Chelsea valued at £2.4B
Man U valued at £5.2B
That’s no joke imo.
Football ownership in general tends to end in tears as the buyers, whomever they may be, think they can turn a quick buck.

I’m more interested in their on pitch performances which have been pitiful for years and don’t really look like changing anytime soon.

LIverpool and FSG is an interesting one to study. I think theyve been good at Liverpool. However, i also support the Boston Red Sox and follow them very closely. The majority of their fans hate Henry and how he runs the club.

Aye because of the popularity of football these days and the business part of it, worldwide appeal and tourists, a club like Birmingham could thrive. Clubs with huge catchments are ready made for buyers and investment. Then competing and establishing in the prem. Real big clubs and traditional clubs, historic clubs are up against it.

Negative is tho they have a good ceiling but a shite floor. Once the going gets tough they'll all fuk off. They won't have the core big support and loyalty like well Sunderland I guess and big crowds even in league one and worst period in our history. They'll also be demanding for success and unrealistic. So mags they'll turn into mags.
