Neutral Umpires/Match Referees

I think this Tour has showed how vital they are.

The Umpiring and decisions that have been made have been an absolute disgrace (not today - so far at least - but throughout the Tour), with every 50/50 decision going India's way, and a few 60/40 in our favour going to them too.

Even if we take the high road and say the Umpires and Match Refs aren't corrupt/biased, and are just generally absolutely shocking, it highlights how easy it is to assume the worst. Neutral Umpires get decisions wrong, but you can take it on the chin, knowing that it's just an honest mistake, and not borne out of favouritism.

Sooner Covid fucks off and we can get back to normal, the better. I don't think my blood pressure can take another corrupt decision!

It was the 50/50 decisions that got to me how bias they were, the angels the third umpire used for us and then them.
Umpires went to the appeal.
Kohli refusing to walk
The stokes catch an example

the shit housery by the captain
Going off twice “injured”

icc will not want to upset their golden egg though.

Meanwhile, Kohli has been accusing England of "not acting in the spirit of the game" with Malans catch.

The f***ing mothball

Any reason the 3rd Umpire can't be neutral?

Everything he judges on can be done from a moniter anywhere in the World surely?

Isn't the third umpire also there in case something happens with the on field umpires - and the fourth umpire takes over the third duties?
Also, in theory there is no point in a neutral third ump. Their job isn't subjective - it's just looking at a TV screen and making the right call

If they can get a touring team, coaches and back room staff into a country during Covid surely they can get 3 umpires in.
This. And there isn’t much difference between someone travelling the length of India to officiate and someone travelling from Sri Lanka or Pakistan.

It can certainly be done still. Richard Illingworth was in Bangladesh for the West Indies test series last month.

Until they have to determine whether the evidence is 'conclusive'.

Buttler’s lbw today wouldn’t have been given by a neutral in my opinion. Irrespective of what DRS returned.
I recall maybe second Test a Buttler stumping not given....worst thing is Indian supporters will have nothing said about it as long as their team wins

Bit like the BCCI refusing to show any replays of Kohlis drop the other day.

When it comes to cricket, Indians would make North Koreas leaders look very honest and modest.

Vaguely related but can’t be arsed to start a new thread. DRS has been tweaked to include all of the bails as out. So no more umpires call if it’s clipping the bails. That’s how I read it anyway
