Midfield
Did any games get played last weekend?
What do you think the chances of any this weekend? Our ground is still properly soaking and we've called off our midweek match tomorrow already - if it rains again i fear for this weekend.

Just a shame we can't reschedule the affected matches in our league.
Could be week 3 before a game gets played, wait all winter and then this happens. Boo!

Not one game was played this weekend. Just been down to our ground (houghton) and play looks very probable could have played on it tonight. Who do you play for by the way?

I asked for games to be re-scheduled but it wasn't a very popular suggestion.

Belmont - our wicket looks ok but the outfield isn't great, we'd need to bring the boundary in from where the bungalows are by quite a difference, be smaller than Beamish!

Rescheduled..... I bet that went down well! ;-)

Although very unsure on who has signed who this year, I'll give a prediction of what I expect to happen.

I'll go for the top 4 from last year being roughly the same, Coundon, Whiteleas, East Rainton, Hunwick,

Think then there is 3 teams looking to break into that, Newton Aycliffe, Houghton, Belmont.

Think the rest will be pretty safe, the likes of Wearmouth, Beamish,

And personally reckon relegation is between Simonside and Coxhoe.

Personally feel East Rainton might win it this year, as I have heard a rumour they have signed a couple of oldish lads, who used to be very good. As I say though apart from Houghton I don't really know who has gone where from our league.

This weekends games being on/off purely depends on Thursdays expected downpour. If that isn't as bad as feared, we should be alright. Tomorrow, Friday and the weekend are meant to be relativity dry.

Any ideas who they are?

Also I wonder where Graham Dunn will go now that North Bitchburn have folded?

Freddie Napier, just asked me mate, and he reckons its true like, think he would have bought a few with him aswell, will score runs for fun in this league if he is half bothered like, or at least off my bowling he will......

Good info fella, who do you play for?

Houghton marra. was looking forward to the start of the season at your place, (seen in earlier post you play for Belmont) Have you lot got anyone new in? What you expecting from this season??

Im considering asking our committee to change our name to AHoughton Colliery Cricket Club.
Then when every game gets rained off this season, we will win the league via Alphabetical order.....

Great plan, we'd trump you with ABelmont........
We've lost a couple of players, Chris Noble from the firsts and a couple of 2nd teamers, couple of new lads have come in Matty Johnson and Paul Richardson.
What about yourselves?
You did miss a cracking tea on Saturday like! :-)

Expectation wise I guess it's see where we can get in the first division whilst keeping the 2's in Division 2, we also have a team in the North East Midweek League so after 2 consecutive promotions it'll be interesting to see the standard of players we come up against. A cup run would be nice but recently we've been gash in the cups.

Recruited a couple of new lads, our 2nd team look strong this year, and should get promoted from the 3rd division, as for the 1st's as high as possible, last year we should have beaten Whiteleas at home, and lost a couple away that we should have won, got a couple of new lads who can bowl, so hopefully that will give us a better chance of finishing teams off.

Cup wise we are the same as you, the 1st's didnt win a cup game last season, so trying to put that right.

Good luck for the season, your lads seemed a canny bunch last year, except one lad who was all mouth when bowling, but he was alright after the game, haha.

did you play in the midweek cricket league? we might be interested in getting into that league but it was mentioned that there could be a lot of travelling.

Whats the standard like??

If it's who I think you mean he is daft as a brush and harmless but can see why he would irritate others..... if it was me then

Good luck fella, hopefully we might get a game in sometime this year.

aye it's a canny league, playing north of the tyne at 6 is a tough ask for us most weeks but a few of us work over on the dark side, standard is decent, it goes from one extreme of having to bowl to someone like Marcus Turner to then having someone who can't hold the bat but generally it's a good, tight match.

8 ball overs - as a bowler it's great for getting rhythm and in form for Saturdays.

At the minute there are only us and Stonebridge (Brandon CC) from the south of the Tyne since Beamish left the league this year. Well worth getting involved - have a search for the website and you'll get a better idea.

Our SMB team i think were on the lookout for a new league - it was suggested but dont know how far it got due to travelling issue.
