The feature before the game last night, looked like a hellhole the village/city where he’s from.

Is Egypt classed as 3rd world?

Seeing as @Frijj is on enforced leave I'll step in.

Short answer, No. The term Third World is a bit vague and refers to alliances more than wealth.

Third World - Wikipedia

The more accurate question is, Is Egypt a developing country? And yes it is.

The UN regards Egypt as a LEDC, a Less Economically Developed Country. Mind you China also has LEDC status because the living conditions are poor for a lot of people even if the country itself is minted.

The third world isn't an accepted concept anymore. It went with the iron curtain. It was third world befire the fall of communism though.

Its a developing country nowadays.

Under the old classification it was third world.

Just as well really as the Swedish and Swiss populations probably objected to the stigma of third word country .

It has been a practice to use the term interchangeably with 'developing' so both definitions would be acceptable

Well the third world weren't aligned with the first world or the communist bloc. After the fall of the communist bloc there was no second world so you won't find many economists or political types using first, second or third world any longer as the definitions are defunct.
