So Hales is averaging 52.93, has scored 183, 96 and 94 in his last 7 1st class innings isn't good enough to play for England but Harry Gurney who has taken 18 wickets in the same 4 games is good enough.

For the record Gurney has 30 wickets at 27.3, compare that to Tom Smith (48 at 18.62), Woakes (34 at 18.62), Roland-Jones (34 at 24.03) and Gregory (37 at 24.14). He's not exactly banging down the door, you just picking him because he's left arm over?

Robson hasn't looked very impressive to me so far but I think he'll certainly see out the summer series. Ali looks good but then seems to get himself out in careless ways, definitely potential there and I think Cook needs to have more confidence in his
 
i amend my moores selection in the first post, to buttler, due to priors announcement.

having said that, it is yet again another management error in playing a clearly unfit and out of form prior.

I think Stokes will play, he's bowling alright. Broad (rested) or Anderson (suspended) will miss this test. Or they might sneak Kerrigan in, I think that's the only way Stokes won't play.

I know it won't happen and I wouldn't necessarily pick that side if it was upto me either but I'd just love to see them do something like that

if i could, i would get money on stokes being rested. jordan wil come in and as for kerigan, i dont even think he is lancs best spinner. a classic moores selection

we all would but downton, moores etc have proved they will not accept any mavericks. it will be at least 18 months until we start winning again

we will go into the odi world cup with bell and cook opening. lay odds on that

It's a big problem with English sport.
Anyone that is classed as a flair player or a maverick are always walking on a tight rope.
The media will always try and create problems for those players and the posh snobs in charge hate anyone that doesn't do what they tell them to but what they forget is the vast majority of fans want to see the likes of Kevin Pietersen playing.

When England played Sri Lanka in the ODI's at Durham I was never going to pay £50/60 for a ticket when our best players were either being rested or sacked.
 
Was having a look at the bowlers who were in the Tes, ODI, Lions and EPP over the winter but not in the last Test. Anyone think any of these can make much of a difference?

Thanks for pulling that together....when you consider it, though, I'm not sure anyone screams out as a glaring omission. And that is worrying.
 
Prior confirmed as out for the series, Broad a major doubt.

Stokes bound to be left out, Iam possibly his biggest supporter on here but that shot he played yesterday was dreadfull. His bowling in my opinion is still his second string if he is going to make it as a quality test all rounder.
