This is part of the problem at the club. Surely there has to be more to our recruitment than 'he can play X position, he'll do' financial problems or not.

We'll see a concentration on more Love-type signings n future, I think; players with a potential upside in value. It won't be pretty until things stabilise. This year was, unfortunately, driven by the need to get enough bodies in to get to a viable squad size. If we'd only bought a couple, as some have suggested, and had the same rotten injuries, we'd have been struggling to fill the bench.

Sure sign of someone who's lost an argument.

Not one factor that overrides all others for all players, but Geography is unlikely to be the 1st priority for any player. Some might put money first, some might put game time, some may have personal reasons, but few, if any, would turn down Sunderland simply because it's North and not on the mainline. Especially when they can easily live in Newcastle (as some do) and be in London in less than 3hrs.

They may be put off Sunderland because the city itself isn't as cosmopolitan as, say, Manchester, but it's location isn't going to bother many, if any.
I'd say it's more the North East in general and this perception of being "cut off" from the more cosmopolitan areas. Let's say for example a player has 100k a week on the table from Sunderland and West Ham. The player is probably more likely to choose West Ham because they are based in London. Now, if Sunderland offered 100k and West Ham 60k then it maye be a more even playing field and the extra money might convince the player to choose Sunderland....and that's exactly how we've gotten ourselves into this mess
