The bookstore closed everywhere, not just Spain. And I’m not looking to buy any biscuits.

The quotes/estimates I’m getting for around 3 cubic metres are around the £750 to £800 mark. I may be naive but that suggests to me a healthy profit before and calpol related opportunity.

Pretty long drive to Barcelona. Doesn't seem a bad price

It would appear that it’s the going rate for companies who do this. Not sure it’s affordable for the person I’m researching it for but reality is beginning to bite.

Thought there was a website where you chuck info in and people approach you ? Bid for it ,or hauliers wanting vans filled to be economical

A relative needs to have a few bits of furniture and personal effects transported from the UK to Spain (Barcelona). Does anyone know of a freight forwarder or van-plus-man/woman type company they’d recommend?

I've just moved house and used birtley removals. Talking to the lads they said they do removals to Spain France etc. Give them a bell.

Just sent you a DM

Thanks. I’ve responded.

Thanks. But it’s from Hull, so may be added expense for a Birtley based company?

Work out the ferry cost (freight not tourist), the fuel & tolls then the man hours to do the job, I think you'll find it's not such a healthy profit after all.

Your best bet really is to look bellendbook or similar in Spain for Brits who specialise in relocating people back from Spain (there are loads of them, particularly round Costa De Sol) and they will be probably cut you a deal as a backload as they will have their profit on the outbound.

I looked the other day and taking a car and the driver on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry one way was over three hundred quid alone...
I do that route regularly on the bike and it's usually anywhere between £400 & £500 for just me & the bike, the economy ferries are cheaper but take longer. The prices have shot up in the last few years.

Takes 2 days to drive down to the south of Spain if you're committed.

I know people who've hires vans when they've bought property down there, took 2 days to drive down and 2 to get back.
In the main it's cheaper to buy stuff out there unless you're moving permanently.
One lad took an new IKEA bed over there and was dismayed to find an IKEA 5 miles from his new gaff when he arrived in Spain.

Crazy,he hasn't done his homework very well.

Thanks for all the advice people. I’ll pass it on. Of course it would be a lot simpler if this was a straightforward ‘move’ from one country to another, from one occupied house to another, undertaken during a non global pandemic period and unaffected by uncertainty around rules post a January 1st which might impact costs and timescales. But hey ho.

Brittany Ferries are now operating an economy sailing to Bilbao which might be worth a look. Not sure what the sailings are like at the moment as they tend to cut back for the winter and have cut a few routes completely till next spring.

I have a membership with them that gets friends & family 10% discount on the sailing if you want to use it, just rattle me a PM.

Cheers mate....I’ve found that flying into Gibraltar then crossing the border into spain eliminates the need to do the 72 hour test as that only applies to sea and airports
