It doesn't make sense for a long term vision that a usual progressive club might choose.
However, Real Madrid are making a point of going the opposite way to everyone else with a bit of a Galacticos reinvention and with that in mind, tactical systems isn't as important for the manager as being the biggest ego in the dressing room. Taking that into consideration, Mourinho was the obvious choice.
It's a manager 10-15 years past his prime for a club with a philosophy 20 years past it's prime.
