More Tests, Less ODI's

Excellent stuff, a small step towards the elimination of all white ball crap. It's ridiculous that the game has 2 world cups and neither allow the winner to call themselves the best cricket team in the world.

I find the international one day games the worst form of cricket going. 20/20 is canny in short bursts and can accompany the test matches quite nicely.

The one day games are neither nowt nor summit, proper dreary affairs.

Like in the article - there is no need for 5/7 ODI's in a series. Should only be 3 at the most with perhaps provision for one extra if the weather ruins one.

Plus no Test Series should be less than 3 Tests. Which could be a strange one if the likes of NZ, Bangladesh, Windies are here and they're not particularly as competitive as say SA, India, Aus (:)).

need to promote test matches in other countries so people go to watch and follow on tv. Then it can happen.

Deffo. That article also mentions a link to the IPL's introduction counciding with the demise of proper cricket - however there's a few disagreements on its full effect. I personally think though that the IPL has someone fucked up Test cricket and for me it's all about India wishing to run/own cricket.

I remember this crazy thing was announced for sometime this year:

I can't really see this kind of format ever working, don't think sensationalising test matches is necessary, it's more of a case of getting other countries interested in it. Maybe raise the financial rewards somehow if that's all people are arsed about.

Can we just have less International cricket overall please? Sick of pointless one day series and tournaments starting up every other week.

I'm not a fan of that idea to be honest. All that's needed is a full four year programme in which every country plays every other country in a home and away series. It could easily be done.

For me the competition isn't between Tests and ODIs or Tests and T20s; its between ODIs and T20s.

You have to ask what is the role of ODIs following the introduction of T20s?

Test cricket is the pure form of the game which everyone wants to see preserved. ODIs were introduced as the quick hit, action packed, casual fan friendly alternative. T20 fills that role much better.

ODIs have become an unsatisfactory half way house between the two; not as fast or fan friendly as a T20

I think the main problem is that ODIs have stopped becoming a way of condensing a game into 1 day and using it as a warm up for proper cricket, and instead had countless rules introduced to put all the emphasis onto batting and hitting as many sixes as possible with little regard to the bowlers or a contest between bat and ball.

When I started watching cricket and ODIs were just used as a warm up, scores of 170 from 50 overs were perfectly normal and competitive, and matches like that were far more entertaining than the crap served up now with scores of 330 being the norm. People criticise tests that have both teams getting massive totals, the same problem is true of ODIs. If the contest between bat and ball could be evened up a bit, ODIs would start serving a purpose again. T20 however is total crap.

I would also love to see the end of coloured kits, what is the point of them anyway?
