I suppose as a gesture of goodwill and to thank him for what he's done over the years, we could offer him a place on the plane (economy class) to India to get some house-hunting done so he's got a nice place to live during the IPL. Olive branches and all that.

Sorry can't agree with that, although it could happen.
Personally I'd put him back on the first boat to the colonies.

Tell him he's back in the team for The Ashes if he does 5 things:

1) Issue a full public apology to Andrew Strauss, the team, the ECB, Andy Flower and the fans.

2) Go on the England Lions tour in the winter

3) Does not play any part in the IPL

4) Scores around 1,000 runs in county cricket by the end of May next season

5) Accepts that one more disciplinary issue and he'll never play for his country again
