More erasing of history...

People do care though
A country with such a rich and proud history as ours, scrapping historical characters - that play an important role in the story of our nation, and who we are - from bank notes, to avoid angering the anti-Britain, BLM, Pro-Palistine, Pro-Iran etc etc knackers that we've filled our country with.

Scandalous really.

And those that cared voted. And more cared about animals

I’m not the one accusing people of erasing history - you are, yet you only seem interested in preserving the history that you like?

Recognising only the good people / good acts and ignoring the bad = erasing history

Putting a couple of birds on the back of a note = not altering history in the slightest

No one, not a single country celebrates bad things. Youre just coming up with nonsense.
Shakespeare, Turing deserve recognition, not removing.

I'd make the argument that for a long time that's how we have defined ourselves and it hasn't done us much good in the long run.

We don't own a quarter of the globe anymore and now more people are asking the question if it was objectively such a good thing when we did.
The lack of infanticide, widow burning, cannibalism, and slavery - might suggest a lot of it was a good thing

Absolutely untrue. Ireland celebrates it's great losses. We consider it crass to be such ungracious winners. Took the rugby team a long time and a lot of work to accept it was actually OK to be a winner and not the romantic loser.

He did, but mainly for pragmatic wartime reasons than any kind of morality or principle.

Churchill was a staunch believer in British Imperialism and most of what went with it.

And if he hasn't have been, your life would/could have been so different.
Enjoy wallowing in your performative guilt though.

Your argument is all over the place

The historical figures get changed, so at some point 'removed'
Shakespeare was removed about 30 years ago & replaced by Faraday who in turn was replaced by Elgar a few years later. They were recognised by being on the note in the first place. We're now going to celebrate wildlife, then in 50 years they might change to landmarks.

No. I wanted to talk about bank notes.
Then, as usual, when the argument is sound, distractions are introduced to muddy the pond.
Start a thread about the British Empire.
No you wanted to start a thread about erasing history... that is not what happens if Churchill is voted by the public to be removed from a bank note.
