Canny, heard a few accents watching England (and seen a load of JFT96 stickers stuck over Newlands) but you lot seem to be heavily outnumbered by Mancs which I've never worked out.

I'd go:-

Cook
Root
Compton
Pietersen
Bairstow
Patel
Prior
Swann
Anderson
Finn
Panesar

Mancs have jobs? And maybe a bit more interest in cricket given where Lancashire (usually) and England (frequently) play...?

Agree with your team, but too left field for the England selectors.

No trott? Can bowl you a few overs if you need as well

Yeah well I wouldn't pick him ever cos of his roots but David Lloyd dropped him in 'his' team for Mumbai. Apparently he's averaged 32 in his last 20 tests or so (although that still probably puts him ahead of most!).

If you have Patel at six I don't think Trott's bowling should come into the equation anyway.

If you pick swann and Monty you don't need patels bowling. And trott is a better bat

His form hasn't been great but he's due a good knock soon. I would prefer to give someone who's been there and done it the chance to redeem himself rather than chuck an untried debutante into a difficult situation

I think if your only putting two specialist seemers in then it would be handy to have an extra options. Yes I know spinners will do the vast majority of work but having the option available isn't a bad thing plus the medium pacers tend to do ok over there, just look at India's attack!

I'm also aware that his bowling is a minor consideration when picking an XI

Agree re Trott's batting.

This. All over. Drop Broad - he's a wanker and massively overrated. I'm sure him or his fatha are sucking off Geoff Miller. Must be. He can't be in the side on talent/personality. Moreover, he's never been an 'all rounder'. Fair enough he can hold a bat, but he's not going to score you regular hundreds. Overaeas average of 14 suggests not. Also want to see Root given a go opening with Compton at his favoured 3. They won't drop Trott though.
