It also allowed the club's creditors to be paid whereas other clubs who have chosen administration have bumped small businesses, leading to job losses. Yet, Ashley is still the bogeyman.

Shepherd made a shit-load of money and spent none of his own in order to 'try' and make you successful. It's f***ing barmy the way you lot rewrite history and gloss over things.

Portsmouth had debts of about £70M, were paying something like 170% of their turnover on wages and didn't have the income to even service their debts. Newcastle were never in that situation, but that's not to say it couldn't have ended up that way.

I'm well aware of Shepherd's running of the club, and especially what he took out of it but for all his failings, at least he did try. Although to be fair, he did piss away the golden opportunity handed to him by John Hall.

I'm not glossing over anything, I just think the whole Ashley saving us card is massively overplayed.

Of course it is. No-one knows what would have happened had Ashley not taken over, it's all hypothetical.
