Mitch Killeen joining Essex

Personally very disappointed at MK leaving. If as rumoured Young Killer has been offered a 3 year Full Pro Contract at Essex as against a 2 year (1 year Development + 1 year Full Pro Contract) with Durham then its hardly surprising he's leaving. Obviously no idea what the total money is involved but the Development Contract will be bottom dollar. I think the Durham offer is low but the Essex one is more than generous. As far as I am aware only the likes of Ben Raine and Alex Lees will be on something like 3 year deals, but obviously more money. Time will tell though. However it seems Essex have more confidence in one of our Academy players than we do.
Durham just signed Archie Bailey on a 3 year deal - also 20 years old who has played less FC/List A cricket than Mitch.

Aldridge and Bailey have been signed on 3 year pro deals

Weve struggled in the CC but been excellent in the white ball stuff mind

It seems a bit unfair people are just ignoring that

I Understand red ball is all our fav format, but Theres been some way OTT stuff posted on this forum

Im gutter about this lad going tho and have been calling for him to be in the side more for a long time, major major cock up and no excuses for it.

Campbell just didn’t wanna pick him like, which has resulted in the club offering him a poor deal, it’s chicken and egg isn’t it what came first.

I honestly don’t think they rate him personally

100% this like

I want 8 or 9 local lads in the side personally, that’s my dream, it’s harder with batsman BHT Durham should always have bowlers

Maybe I’m naive in that but I don’t have the affiliation to players just signed from elsewhere, it’s not why I follow county cricket

I still stand by my post above this but I’m not as attached to Durham as I should be in that is the reason why, being bottom of the Cc div 1 wouldn’t bother me if we were investing in our own, but we aren’t.
Some decent points here.....you dont have the same affiliation for players from elsewhere...similarly they cant be expected to have the same affiliation for Durham as our local lads.
i would very much doubt that the "Blaydon Races" has been stomped out in the dressing room this season....another thing which in previous seasons identified us ( even though I hated it for the Mag coonection ) as is seemingly no longer there.
Wood , Carse and Stokes never around the place doesnt help either mind but it is feeling less and less like a North East club and cant really see this changing unless someone like Collingwood returns as DoC

It's still performed but such is our lack of wins on home soil this season that it's rarely heard.

Aye. I would have offered Aldridge a 2 year deal and wouldn't have signed Bailey, let alone give him a 3 year full pro contract. But what do I know and hopefully I will be proved very wrong. It seems there's been a big change in that we cannot retain players that we have blooded in the CC and now have to import players from other counties to replace them.

I always feel its very rare a county sign a domestic player from another county who have no track record at that county and they show that they are good enough.
There has been so many who have arrived at Durham over the years and within a few games you know there no better than what we have already got.

Played for Burnopfield today, doesn’t appear to be anywhere near the Essex team.

Reckon we sign him back in a year or two?

Salisbury, Raine, Harte?

Yeh,Essex have more depth in bowling than Durham so it was a measure of his disenchantment that he chose to leave. Not so much an uproar but a surprise that a youngster gets a match winning 5_for and then offered contemptuous renewal terms.
Durham have a lot of options just lots of injuries at the moment

Inexperienced options I recall Michael Hussey saying EIGHT experienced seam bowling options.I'd accept Hussey's advice.
At that time we had such riches. And most were Academy products. Not the case now. I'm asking why?
My argument is Killeen would have given us another option.
Injuries to fast bowlers are inevitable. You need lots of options.

He'd just be another inexperienced option we have plenty of them as you say

Essex coach Chris Silverwood and Neil Kileen are good mates.

Maybe that is one of the reasons (not the main one) Mitchell decided to go there.

The fact he is playing club cricket up here may suggest he is homesick being so far from his roots.
