Mitch Killeen joining Essex

mackembhoy

Striker
As already said on here but now confirmed.

A complete failure from a coaching perspective that they've pulled in so many bowlers in Campbell time.

When there's a young homegrown player who we should have given far more chances too

Edit: Stanley Mac also not getting a new contract and leaving, hadn't read the article.

I am a little amazed at this. Although we haven't seen much of him, his performances have shown plenty of promise.

I can't for the life of me understand why we have not secured his long-term future whilst investing in the likes of Conners and Brandon Glover. De Leede is another one (I know he's an all-rounder) who we pay a wage to, and only see for 20% of the season.

A really worrying development this IMO.

Killeen turned down a new contract, so obviously didn’t feel valued
It was said on here he got offered another rookie deal with a 1 year pro deal following on from it. While Essex offered a 3 year deal.

So that's a clear failure from North but then then everyone will go for North, but not Campbell that has barely given him a chance.

He was undervalued by North and Campbell. So fair enough to the lad taking his chance elsewhere.

Killeen has done alright with the limited chances he's had this season - the one CC game he played against Somerset he took a 5er. I would rather we offered him longer than a year seeing as we gave Conners 2 years and rumoured to be signing Aldridge and some kid from Gloucestershire on multi-year deals. At this rate we will only have one or two local lads in the squad.

A huge failure for the club this. I wish Mitch all the very best for the future and this year he has shown what he is capable of with the very limited opportunities he has been given. This club has always prided itself on local talent and bringing them into the first team to represent us and we have slowly started to see that dwindle at times with the heavy amount of “outside” recruitment in the bowling department when local lads have been available and not selected. It’s not acceptable and whilst we have seen injuries to young lads (something which needs addressing as it’s happening far too often), Mitch is a classic example of someone who has been ignored time and time again and I can’t blame him for wanting to move on as it must be demoralising to see so many loan players brought in and selected ahead of him and that applies to some of the other younger lads as well. Appreciate needs must at times but it’s got out of hand in recent times and now we’ve lost a very young promising local lad who never lets us down. The whole recruitment at the club needs looking at, and that “blame” lies with the Director of Cricket. The club seem more obsessed with reducing the game and franchise cricket, and we have taken our eye off the ball in other areas and our league position backs that view. To now be losing young promising bowlers is unacceptable but fully support the player with his decision. To put it bluntly, it’s not acceptable but as with the theme of the recent members forum, those running the club at the moment seem to think they know better and have little thought for outside opinions.

Huge failure this and reiterates my long standing views of those running the club (Not Campbell)

But who decides to bring in loan journeyman in place of academy products? Recruitment and retention are solely North's remit

Very disappointing.

As for Stanley Mac, I'd say don't give up, if you still have the ambition they are several bowlers who were released and recovered to have a good career/

This. There's been little need to bring in Aldridge, Ball, Blatherwick when we could have given a youngster a chance. The purpose of this club has always been to produce young local talent and whilst the conveyor belt was always going to slow down at some point, what are we left with at the moment?

Raine (34)
Potts (England)
Borthwick (35 - pretty much a FT coach now)
Wood (England)
Carse (England)
Stokes (England)

That leaves us with McKinney, Mustard, Robinson and Minto and other than Big Ben, how often have we seen the others involved? Mustard and Robinson it is questionable about their overall quality but the way things are heading, in 2/3 years time we could realistically be fielding an XI with no home grown talent.

Did we really need to sign Conners, Parkinson, De Leede, Glover, as well as the loans? Some of our recruitment has been awful and needless.
