'Missing' people

Missing couple and baby seen in Colchester, say police

While I understand there may be concern for a new mother that apparently received medical attention, I'm confused as to how two adults going about their business are 'missing'.

It's not like a bairn hasn't returned home at an expected date. Maybe there's more than meets the eye that they're not revealing.

It's a real existential pickle. Am I missing? Maybe an astrologist or someone who knows the Mayan calendar might reckon I'm not where I should be right now, despite being where I'm currently situation of my own volition.

If the bairn is in danger then they should be sought.

Whether that’s in danger of the parents or in danger because they’re seriously ill.

I also thought the story came across a bit strange in the way it was told. A couple have left hospital with their baby and are now being sought by the police.

I can only assume they’re keeping some details back to protect the child.

Aye, there's not a dark side to this tale and everyone concerned is ok. Probably sounded a bit flippant but it genuinely baffled me.

I think you may be misunderstanding the concept. I think you’re deemed ‘missing’ when nobody knows where you are. Obviously you would still know where you are.

(By ‘nobody’, I obviously mean the vast majority. If these two people are missing together, they both know where the other one is)

I would imagine there's some choild protection concern with regards to the baby. Possibly the parents were going to be under some kind of social services supervision after the baby was born and they've done a runner.

They’ve had a child with no medical intervention or support. That in itself is a concern. But it’s not hard to see there are almost certainly wider issues that led to them having a child without intervention or support and then travelling around the country.

I don’t think there’s any great mystery here. They’re just not publishing all the details. And why should they?

Because it’ll stop people making up their own version of events.

Might help them find them quicker too.

Who cares about the former, and I doubt the latter.

It’s just rubbernecking.

Aye, at lot of it is just grief porn. Supposedly in the 'public interest' but have a strange obsession when something happens to an attractive woman. Pretty creepy if you ask me.

edit: hope there's not a dark side

The people being sought. I bet there’s all kinds of rumours going around.

And why do you doubt the latter. If you say the baby is in grave danger and could die, it may convince someone to turn them in.

If they think it’s just someone taking their kid to keep them safe then they may not turn them in.

Turns out he's a convicted sex offender and she's an aristocrat.

Well there was definately more to this tale than was first thought Apparently the baby was born in the abandoned car so there must be, at the very least, child protection concerns.

The mind boggles.

Maybe travellers have children with no medical intervention...I wonder how the law stands on that.

Don't they have to register the babies birth?

Seems an odd story.. nothing wrong with wanting to be left alone..there's a £10k reward as well surely they can't be that hard to track down.
