If that wasn't a message to the ECB and their ridiculous 'Hundred/Franchise sh*te' idea, I don't know what is. Full house, good game, 2 proper counties going at it full pelt. I'm not the biggest fan of T20 but nights like that could convince me its worth 4 weeks of the season played by all 18 counties as the way to get more people involved watching and more importantly, playing cricket.

Commentators said the night before that ticket sales were already up this year compared to last. Not sure if that's the weather having an effect or what but there simply isn't the space for both competitions.

The T20 is not a difficult sell at the major test grounds.

The FTECB want to create an environment for the mythical new fans.

So how can we do that, highly paid experts in marketing were asked.

I know, let's have 8 franchises at grounds that are full already.

Then cherry pick all the decent players from the other areas

Result, the same grounds are sold out, whilst swaves of the country have places full of the mythical new fan base lives, but they are unable to see any of these games in the flesh.

Still they can watch on telly they say, when the do, and young Keanu wants to go and see a game, from his home in Carlisle, his dad says, nope 200 mile round trip to watch Dwayne bravo, Chris Gayle, narine, Finch, Maxwell, etc etc, can't be doing that, as petrol will by £2 a litre

But dad I want to watch the England players, sorry son, none of them will be playing as otherwise engaged.

FTECB it's been a fantastic success and people now know all these players from Australia and windies

The England team? Well we hold the ashes but are ranked 5th overall.

Indeed, but won’t their argument be that the two teams involved would be factored into the franchise bullshit anyway??

I mean I’m in no way a FTECB supporter as people know, but playing devils advocate I think they’ll see that last night and not make the correlation you made. In their warped minds they’ll envisage every ground as full as that in the new format.

Obviously 18 counties playing it has a far greater chance of grabbing the public interest than 8 playing a bollocks format - but the muppets at FTECB don’t get that.

When the final total attendance is published in September time, the ECB should look at it and realize they can't improve on it.
We have a pretty much perfect T20 competition here and shouldn't be looking elsewhere for ideas.

Good. Knew the disastrous winter was just a bad dream ;)

Dunno about that bit, you could swing a Tiger around The Shit Bowl, Cardiff, Edgbaston and Headingley.

Disagree.

They should be aiming to fill the Northern test venues, get Essex having 40k at the Olympic Stadium etc.

You can see from the media coverage of the Blast that it doesn't register on the average Joe's radar.

I bet this new one does.

so the mythical new fan base is located in these areas only?

if it doesn't register that is down to lack of marketing by the ftecb

you seem to be in favour of the franchise cricket.

the other ten counties are irrelevant and their fans are not worthy of seeing this new game?

would that not alienate the current fan base, which any new fanbase could not replicate?

where are the young kids from Leeds and Manchester upwards, going to see these stars ?

vegatating in front of the telly, but no way of experiencing the inground atmosphere

One last thing.

I'm all for new ideas, innovations etc etc, but it should be for all 18 counties and not 8.

that's my gripe, all in or none.

I don't like franchises and I don't like 100 balls mate. Looking forward to the Yorks game next Friday far more than I could any franchise shit.

However this new path gets more grief on here than the four TV deals that Giles Clarke signed off, which I think is unjust. They're at least having a go at broadening the popularity of the game.

We could just come up with a streaming service or subsidise select games to be shown on FTA. Definitely better than throwing £25-40,000,000 down the hole every year trying to entice people who don't care.

Are they though? If they are genuinely trying to do that, they’re absolutely clueless about how to do it.

Worryingly, they may not be trying to grow the game. In fact, I actually think it’s just a disguise for them - with the real aim of trying to make the most money they can for themselves.

They are pissing about with the format to try and get it on a prime BBC channel.

I don't agree with it but Giles Clarke would have given the entire thing to Sky to squeeze out an extra few quid.
