Middle East conflict is causing a cricket ball shortage

Apparently the Duke balls, although made mostly in the UK, go to South Asia to be stitched.

Lets hope the ECB dont see this as an excuse to go back to Kookaburras.

It says “Dukes are made from leather taken from British cows, which is then tanned in Chesterfield. However, the leather is then shipped to South Asia where it's stitched into balls, and then shipped back to the UK.”

This kind of thing is not untypical of the global logistics system but it’s absolutely crazy. It’s time this kind of stupid back and forth of components and products was brought to an end. It’s not good for the planet and it’s avoidable.

It's based on cost effectiveness. As long as labour charges are far less in Asia than in UK it will remain so.
