Who then?
Do you mean an International Cricket Captain who knows what he's doing or the captain we've got?I think the position is over-valued. Does an International cricket captain need input from another source? The key post is the chairman of selectors-Ed Smith's response to the 1st test debacle is the crucial issue.
Good point.Agree totally about Root and Cook who, to be fair, had little or no captaincy experience before being given the England captaincy. Seems Colly would be the best available for the role. Not so sure Root would heed advice though.?

I also felt Cook wasn't a good captain and only learnt how to be just before he left the job.
Aye cos root is shiteI think the position is over-valued. Does an International cricket captain need input from another source? The key post is the chairman of selectors-Ed Smith's response to the 1st test debacle is the crucial issue.
He has just been apppointed coach for the Birmingham based 100 team (he was on TMS talking about it). I suspect that would be his reasoning for sniffing aroundAndrew Mc Donald was lurking around Smith/Taylor/Giles at the test match. Wonder if there's anything in that ?

Nah, won’t happenReleased by Pakistan.
Would you have him as Bayliss' replacement?
Silverwood, Farbrace, Mike Hesson, Gary Kirsten, Gillespie.Who then?
Colly/Silverwood combo?
Or do we need a completely fresh start test-wise with someone from outside the current set-up?
Brendon McCullum .. untested but thinks differently.. this is what we need.
Been there done that. Back to Test match basics now pleaseBrendon McCullum .. untested but thinks differently.. this is what we need.
Aye, more slogging in red ball cricket - exactly why we need
Well why not I think he would be a good appointmentTBF McCullum's NZ seemed to square the circle of playing expansive test cricket without collapsing like a pack of cards.
But why appoint McCullum when you could have the coach (Hesson)?
